Emerald question... uhoh moment

Find this in a vintage daily-wear-for-you-style (not cocktail as you mentioned) in a price point you won’t cry upon when it then gets too damaged to wear.

Or that’s what I would have said before I got my emerald that’s in a completely unprotected setting - the prongs snag mosquitos that happen to fly to close- and I’m terrified to wear it for fear of damage. I paid not that much (relatively speaking) for the stone - but it’s almost impossible - if not actually impossible - to replace.
But I cannot bear to ever see it damaged even though it’s not a ideal specimen with a lab report, and it lives put away, and pulled out to gaze upon periodically, petted and patted and babbled to, and put back away again.
- so I now know owning and wearing an expensive legit gem level emerald is never in the cards for me. Even with a ‘safe’ setting.

So - trying out a relatively lower priced vintage one (that you love the looks of the emerald) sounds like a great idea to see if it fits your lifestyle. But you may very well still be just as sad if it gets ruined, as if you spent a whole lot more.

Ooooh, I love your peach sapphire! What does your emerald look like? I think perhaps if I had a wardrobe of rings to rotate through I would be less concerned? I’m just at the start of my bling collection, and it takes me forever to make decisions. I’m not even sure I could manage one new piece a year with how long it takes me to make a decision

That’s what I decided to do. Rotate. Be ok with vintage.

Thanks!
Yes- rotating and having options to choose from helps. But I also see flip side of a ‘one signature piece’

Below you’ll see some pics of my emerald heart. Might need to click on the posts & pictures to have a clear view

@Efleon
In response to your questions in another thread-
You can click on each individual photo for clearer viewing.
I can try later to take closeup pictures of the surface reaching inclusions and tiny girdle chips, if you really want? Heck - the only reason I know the tiny girdle chips were there was DK side noted them when he received the stone for setting!
the price reflected its imperfect condition, but it doesn’t bother me one bit when I look at the stone in real life. I’m incredibly happy with it!
Of course if it were priced in the thousands - that would be a different situation.
The nature of it being an included emerald high dome cab and it’s setting = very infrequent wear and definitely very low activity with that hand while wearing.
I bought the stone from another PSer who bought it from ACStones. It’s not vintage nor antique- but really I have no way of knowing how old it is.

So pretty! I do see a heart of some kind in my future! Thank you for sharing, I couldn't find it in your threads.

I'm on the hunt for some vintage... would you ever buy overseas? Or do you keep it to the same continent or in person? There are so many lovely places in the UK but I'm in the US so hesitate to do that.

My favorite ring is from Weldon’s of Dublin. Emerald. Just communicate with the vendor. Ask about vat rebates. I have been ghosted by European vendors asking about VAT or treatment. I don’t deal with them. You want someone who cares about their reputation, is followed on Instagram by quality US vendors. It’s actually a great idea because a lot of the Europeans don’t seem to value vintage.

I love your ring! I also loooove your black enamel one. I keep checking JR regularly for something as unique!

Thank you!! <3 I love the onyx and emerald one too - it just doesn’t get as much use due to the stones being rather exposed. I am super happy with both pieces from JR.

I think the vintage route is perfect…the search is half the fun! Here’s one I looked at today:IMG_3758.jpeg

This is mind boggling!

It’s a good time for us to buy as our dollar is so strong. I’ll try to find some of the bigger ones. I’ve found Weldon’s, Delphi Antiques (also Dublin), Hancock London, Berganza.

Delphi ghosts me when I ask about treatment or vat refunds and refers me to an appraiser when I ask for more details on a piece

Oh dear, thank you for the head’s up. I have also read not good things about Philip Lloyd in the UK. I’ll continue to search US vendors and auction houses as well. Auctions seem a bit more out of reach, the pieces mostly all seem like high jewelry and in the six figures.
