In terms of cleaning,etc... The bezel and surrounding metal is platinum, how do I go about polishing this (if it were white gold Id rhodium plate it for example?) and then is there a risk to the emerald in doing this?

If I wanted to dip the yellow gold band in rhodium to make it white gold could I?

You can take it to a jeweler and they can dip the band if you don't like the yellow gold. Normally, we remove the emerald before working on the metal just to ensure nothing happens, but that doesn't mean it has to always be the case. I'd ask for an opinion on buffing the platinum by someone who works with emeralds if you really want it polished up. You don't want to ask just anyone to work on it and risk them chipping the stone.

A lovely ring and it suits your hand - not too big and definitely not too small either! Beautiful.

One thing you can do to make the shank white is to coat it with a silver plating solution. You can buy it quite easily and you paint it or apply it with a small artist's paintbrush or a soft cloth. As others have said, unfortunately it won't last very long (but if you have the plating solution at home you can do it when you need it). To be honest, I would leave it as is because the overall effect on your hand is white gold

Well, sorry to bring up an older thread now, but I have officially graduated and am now "allowed" to wear my emerald ring!!!! The delayed gratification was so worth it! Ill get some nice hand shots today. Thanks everyone for all your kind comments.
