Hi all
I was wondering if there were any good emerald 101 sites people might recommend?
Thanks!

MTG what does 101 sites mean? Does it mean education or selling? Sorry to be dense, think this may be a linguistic "across the pond" misunderstanding!

If it's for buying Emeralds have you looked at Josh's Embassy Emeralds?

I meant education. :) Thanks!

LD, since nobody really explained...

Usually in US colleges or Universitys, the entry-level courses are designated with a 101 level. For instance, US History 101. So thats the first course in that subject. That's the literal meaning or where the "saying" came from. So now whenever someone says "Emeralds 101" or "Gemstones 101" it means that they don't really know anything about the subject so they want to learn the basics.

Thanks Chris. It's not a term I'm familiar with.

I love emeralds!!

I wish I had a site or even thread to link to, but for some reason we seem to rarely talk emeralds around here. I'll do some searching around to see if I can find something.

In the mean time though, things to keep an eye out for:
temporary fillers--colored oil, dyes, etc.
permanent fillers--these are getting to be more "accepted" so you'll have to watch out for these even more
lighting--can make a huge difference; in my experience, dimmer lighting can make an emerald look 'deeper' in color
cuts--EC's are most common, rounds and ovals are much more rare..I think its the shape of the crystal that lends itself to that

Will come back as I think of more. Gene has a pretty oval I can think of off hand.
