Hi everyone,

I just joined PS and this site seems like a wealth of knowledge. Thank you.

I’m currently designing an engagement ring for my future fiancé. I plan on using a 1.5k to 2k pink sapphire for a center stone. My price range is around $1,000 (give or take a few hundred)

I found a beautifully cut sapphire on Gemfix (pic at the bottome of the page) http://www.gemfix.com/sapphire_pink.html...... Order/Stock No.: sapphire_pink_458 (top right of the page). At $1,140 it’s just outside of my price range but I’d be willing to spend a little more for a better quality gem. Before I make a decision I have a few questions for you all.

First: Is the pink sapphire listed on Gemfix worth the price? I’m really new to this and don’t know how to tell the difference between a great cut and a poor cut. This sapphire really seems to sparkle though.

Second: Does anyone have any experience using www.multicolour.com or http://www.ajsgem.com/?????? They seem to have a lot inventory and some good prices. However, I figure you get what you pay for. Here a few of the gems I was looking at from ajs and multicolour:

A big thank you to anyone who can offer some guidance.

Cut wise, Gemfix's pink sapphire is the best cut and should easily outsparkle all your other options. It doesn't have the best colour but the cut makes up for that somewhat.

Multicolour's pinks sapphire are stronger coloured but the cut on 2 of them are sorely lacking. The giant windows in the middle will be a dead looking area. The only one I would consider is the second one (83247700). Note that it will be slightly less saturated in person.

I find AJS to be a bit expensive lately. The second stone has a strong orange component.
