I''m looking to get engaged at some point in the next few months and the only experience I really have with diamonds are these forums that I have been perusing throughout the last month; and so I really appreciate you''re help for this two part post.
My game plan is to buy a diamond online, and then go to a jeweler to have him/her set it on a setting (only because I can''t decide on a setting online, only in person). My budget allows me to spend up to $20,000; the specs of a diamond that I am looking for are:
Cut: AMAZING. I understand that the Hearts&Fire diamonds are beautiful but I don''t like paying money for name brands; I''d rather buy an equivilent no-name diamond for a cost reduction.
Clarity: Anything "eye-clean." And for that I''ll use WhiteFlash''s definitin located here, http://www.whiteflash.com/diamonds_info/t/faq.aspx?articleid=403&zoneid=6
Color: I would not like to see any coloring at all (I know thats very vague)
Carat: 1.45 - 1.55
So based on those requirements, I was able to narrow the diamonds down to the following:
http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/Whiteflash-ACA-cut-diamond-2219631.htm#
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1255544.asp?b=16&a=12&c=77&cid=131
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/E-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1241708.asp?b=16&a=12&c=77&cid=131

So now what would you pick? The next question I have is more of a general question related to setting the diamond and future maintenance. I''ve been touring around the mall and all the stores offer these maintenance programs and my basic question is, are they worth it? I live in the NYC area so if you could get specific, that would be great!
Thanks for your help!
