Well I just received the sapphire, it wasn't easy due to UPS but that's another story. I am attaching some quick pictures I took so sorry about the quality. Let me say this, the sapphire is beautiful, it doesn't photograph well (at least for me) but in all the light conditions I have put it in it never goes black, goes from a vibrant (electric) blue in bright light to a beautiful violet blue in low light. My only hesitation I have at all is the size, it's about 5.6mm square and I was originally looking for closer to 6.5mm I think when set though this sapphire is going to look amazing (Dang it why can't we always get what we want). Well anyway lets see what everyone has to say.
Witness the power of positive thinking!

I agree with TL that the stone is on the shallow end. However, if you love the colour and the cut doesn't affect it (from your description, it sounds like that's the case), go for it! Unfortunately, as TL said, corundum has relatively high specific gravity. So, a 1 ct. sapphire will look smaller than a 1 ct. tourmaline, all things equal.

P.S. If the colour screams at you, don't overthink things. My $0.02.

Thank you SO much for you response tourmaline_lover, I have spent the last hour staring at the sapphire in every light I can find. It''s been under the microscope and I''ve been looking at it under my loupe for the last 15 minutes. I don''t see any inclusions, the sapphire looks just about perfectly "clear" (amazing how funky finger prints look under magnification). I also LOVE the color the more I look at it, in flourescents it''s a brilliant violet blue under my daylight it''s a vivid blue. Based on my understanding of extinction this sapphire looks good, when placed face up under my daylight it never blacks out, it will exhibit different shades of blue but not black. I''m not sure the best way to test for windows but I did not observe anything that bothers me trying to look through the table at the background. It does not appear to exhibit any zoning, it''s hard for me to get good lighting but when viewing the sapphire the color seems to be the same throughout. The size is bothering me less and less the more I admire this sapphire, so I guess that means I like it (haha).

Yes, I guess you do, and thanks for reminding me about the new season of South Park!!

Thank you Harriet, I really appriciate you feedback. My plan now I think is to hang out with the sapphire tomorrow and see how it feels. It does keep calling to me though so I think you are right :)

Oh forgot to tell everyone and wanted to mention my experience with NSC has been great so far. Kevin was very helpfull on the phone and was able to quickly and easily answer all my questions! Also I asked about Valentines coming up and getting a discount and was able to work 20% off!!! Amazing thing though is once I got the stone and started dreaming about the finished ring and presenting it to my gf, the price didn''t so much matter anymore, that''s my .02 :)

Bing, you''re most welcome! One lesson I''ve learnt is that if a stone grabs you, grab it.

Okay, not to go entirely off-topic, but that's a very dissimilar experience to someone they absolutely refused to offer the lower price per carat (that stone was around $20K). They recently raised their prices, and they told the buyer that they HAD to make a decision THAT day, or they would lose the lower price per carat. Everyone on PS seemed a bit outraged, but maybe NSC changed their tone a little bit. Goofy?!

Well I'm glad you had a very positve experience with them.
