Ever heard of a commitment ring ?

Have you ever told Gary how you feel about it & suggested he buys you something? It doesn't have to be expensive or flashy, as long as it comes from HIM. And if he says nah, waste of money, go buy one for yourself :appl:

I've already told you my bestie in Wellington wears a ring full of different colour sapphires that her partner bought for her, as they have both been married twice before & are hesitant to do it again, though they're fully committed & own a house together.

When I was with my ex in Wellington, I wore a ring on my ring finger. It was a wide, heavy 18ct yellow gold band full of diamonds from Partridge Jewellers on Lambton Quay & i adored it (sadly no pics). I was happy to wear it as a compromise, as I had refused a proposal. Turned out he was a bit of a b@stard & my gut feelings were right

My forever bestie here in the UK has never been married & hasn't any children. She has lived with her gorgeous man for 12 years now, but he is reluctant to marry due to watching his parents acrimonious divorce when he was 19. It was nasty & really upset him.

So.... she took some old pieces of her grandmothers that weren't to her taste & had a goldsmith work his magic. Now on her ring finger she has a really unique Tanzanite & diamond ring, all swirled in platinum bubbles. He partner adores it & has no issue with her wearing a ring to symbolise that she is in a healthy, committed relationship.

Oh the stuff they have in the Window at partridge is gorgouse
Ive never been brave enough to go in - they dont show the prices in the window

Your besty's man i do understand
Gary was very baddly hurt over his wife telling him she didn't love him anymore
but ive been here twice as long as his ex (who is a very nice lady btw) - they were just too young and grew apart but still didn't have the experience of knowing how to get through hard times together
Its very sad, its like they are exactly like couple from Bruce Springsteen's the river (the only song Gary admits to liking)
Knocked up at 17,having to get married, hanging out with brothers im the summer, no work in the construction industry due to the same world wide economic problems at the very same time
except Bruce wrote it about his own sister and BIL and they thankfully are stiil married and have been happy for many years

Its ok to go off topic on one's own thread !!

I do love the sound of your old ring and also your your besties ring too

Aww, I’m sorry. I completely understand how you feel. I waited 10 years to get an engagement ring from my husband.
I purchased my own diamond prior to that but what I really wanted was something from my husband. He is so terrible with getting me gifts but honestly I would have been so happy with a diamond chip as long as he would have bought it and made the effort.
Finally I just told him, our 10th anniversary is coming up and this is what I want. There was no ultimatum or guilt trip. I just told him this is what I really want and I think I deserve it. Some men need guidance. My husband needs guidance.
Now if there is something I want I usually buy it myself, but if it’s pricey I do give him the chance to buy it for me with a hint. Or I just tell him I would love to have this.
If I don’t, I guarantee 1000% he will never buy it for me.
Tell Gary what you want.

Your right
im happy you finally got your ER
I mean i certainly wouldn't say no to an ER at this stage (although i went off the idea of a wedding years ago)
i don't actually know if Gary's ex had an ER ?
He has brought me the odd nice bits over the years
two really really nice faux sets that weren't exactly cheap and certainly were not nasty
And he did give me a cheque once for some gold earimgs i still love
maybe i should wear that stuff more ??
Its quite dressy rather than every day
He prefers to give me gifts of technology like a new computer or phone or something related like some PC part in a box
it feels like getting homework when i get computer stuff
Last year i got nice earphones for my birthday (that's so he doesn't have to listen to Bruce) and he buys me books i ask for
We havn't done xmas presents the last 3 years with buying the house and me not having a job the last 2
i really feel i deseve something for putting up with him when he's being difficult because he feels crappy with being sick because i have all the patients in this house ! And its been a long road and he's grumpy today because he can't see hardly at all and i feel bad for him and i know he's frustrated

So you have all the technology, suggest you'd like a ring to wear. Nothing expensive, just a couple of hundred $ or so, then see where that goes. He has bought you other pieces so he's not totally against jewellery, but he's a man so let's be honest: he probably has NO idea how much it would mean to you.

Men don't think like women. If I said to Mr T "ooh, the insides of those windows need a good clean, would you be a love & give them a scrub?" he would get up & clean those windows until they gleamed. But it would never occur to him, sitting there by himself, to get up & clean the windows. Men don't always have tge same initiative & need a good nudge!

Do I get a commitment ring when I'm finally sent where I belong ... the asylum?

If that ever happens Kenny, we'll have a wip-around and find something nice

Would you ever propose to Gary?

@Daisys and Diamonds have you brought up the topic again with Gary?

Um not great timing !
He is very protective of his frying pan and i appear to have f-ed it :(2

Added to the list of things i need to buy when ive got a job

i thought once i actually am working again I'd being it up once we have caught up on everything
- the big fridge is keeping cold, the washing machine wont do a hot wash, the flat screen's remote only works on 3 channels, property taxes overdue, hot water bill coming in the mail, we even need a new electric jug - its leaking :(2

off topic but @Daisys and Diamonds have you seen this jeep ad yet?

i have to say i really disliked the script but their choice of spokesperson was cool =)

:kiss2: :kiss2: :kiss2: :kiss2: :kiss2: :kiss2: :kiss2: :kiss2: :kiss2: :kiss2: Actually my screen name on my Springsteen forum is Daisey Jeep
It would seem Bruce wrote a lot of the script and had full control over the content. Himself, his producer and his video man made it and he wrote the score and the CJ-5 he's driving around in is his
Visually it has a lot of similarities from his last album

Its been pretty polarizing on my forum and its not what i had hoped he was doing in Nebraska etc last week
but im a Jeep gal so i love it
As a rightie im used to Bruce's PSA's,

Gary says its not a Jeep add, its a Bruce Springsteen production but the superbowl adds are a category all of their own

thanks for thinking of me when you saw it =)2

Oh interesting! I thought the message sounded really trite coming from a car company ... it makes more sense if he wrote it.

I get irritated with ads that say nice things when we don’t see the companies walking the talk... happens every super bowl :/

Here, being so far away we are most intetested in how much it costs to broadcast an add on the superbowl !
I love the cinematic type ones like the Budweiser horses
When Gary saw the horse in the Jeep add he said "is that the new model?" :mrgreen2:

Poor old Jeep is like a cat with 9 lives its had so many owners over the years - even since we had ours (ours was called Daisy after Catherine Bach)

Hahaha is that the new model. I read it costs over 5m for 30 seconds and of course there’s the cost to make the ad o_O
