Ever heard of UV garnet?

I am dorky enough that I bought a cheap LED UV flashlight at Wallyworld, I was pretty excited when it turned my mint grossular into a pad!

What is Wallyworld?

I agree that it's a marketing ploy.

Wal-Mart....:) :twirl:

That's not dorky at all! My best friend is my UV light. I gravitate towards stones that have great fluor and love love love photographing them and playing - now that's dorky! lol Don't get me started or I'll start posting loads of photos of fluor! I am truly a fluor geek! :rodent: :geek:

Okay. I feel better. I am among friends who play with their CSs. Now. What deep blue stone would flor red? Is there anything natural?

Cobalt (bearing) spinel - Sri Lanka and Luc Yen - moderate pink to brownish red.

But only some of them....7 Luc Yen and 6 with fluor and 10 Sri Lanka spinel ( 3 with fluor)

Wow. Really interesting. Thank you Marlow! I think UV is underrated as I diagnostic tool. My two blue scissor cut spinels have pretty rich pink fluor and I found it odd. This is reassuring.

Yes, but use UV light as an additional tool - like a Chelsea filter.

I have 4 similar colored (deep fine green) tsavorite - two are inert and two with red fluor ( maybe Kuranze in Tansania with a higher Chrome content).

6 tested V- Chrysoberyl - one has a vivid pink fluor ( 0,02 % Vanadium and Chrome and very very low iron - so the low chrome is strong enough to produce fluor) - the others are inert - higher iron or low chrome content.

I think a Fluoro thread is a great idea. :Up_to_something:
(Might even attract Kenny back)
