Hi All,
I have purchased the diamond linked and summarized below.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI1-Excellent-Cut-Round-Diamond-1545362.asp

In my searching, it seems like this stone is of much higher quality than others in its price range, mostly because of its great cut. I am paying just under 6k for it. It seems to have superb angles and proportions, and the inclusions are limited to twinning wisps, a feather, a natural, and possibly some surface graining.

Am I missing something on the quality of the diamond?

Thanks a lot for your commentary!

Shape: Round
Carat Weight: 1.10
Cut: Excellent
Color: I
Clarity: SI1
Certificate: GIA
Depth: 62.5%
Table: 57.0%
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Girdle: Slightly thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 6.56*6.58*4.10

The only thing I see is that it is a little deep and might face up slightly larger if it was less than 62% deep (we usually recommend staying above 62.3%). But it does look like a very nice stone for the price!

I'd look into all those twinning whisps being the first inclusions listed by GIA on an SI1.
Five are plotted and the Comments section says there are more.
Inclusions are listed in order of seriousness.

They may not be a concern, but I'd look into whether they are a mechanical issue, depending upon how protective of a setting you have in mind.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions!

I'm going with this setting, I would say it looks pretty protective.

I will definitely call and try to get more info on the wisps, specifically if they are a mechanical issue.

I'm I correct in thinking that if the most important inclusions are the wisps (hopefully not dangerous to the structure), then it should definitely be eye clean?

Twining wisps can be good inclusions. You asked them if the stone was eyeclean, right? Often they don't plot all the wisps because it would be too scary looking! My daughter's diamond is an SI1 with twining wisps and hers is totally eyeclean!

I do not know what Kenny means by "mechanical issues" with twining wisps! I think he meant "structural", perhaps?

I was assuming he meant structural as well.

Yes, I was told it was eye clean, but in my mind that too has a range. I am still going through the final inspection stage so I still have time to ask more questions (and talk to someone while they are actually hiding the stone). I'm just getting anxious and want it in my hands already!

Looking at their "virtual loupe", I can only barely see any inclusions, and that's at a rather large magnification, so my inclination is that the wisps aren't too severe.

I think they are often some of the better SI1 inclusions and don't think SI1 inclusions normally pose structural issues. Let us know what you think when it comes!
