Hello all!

My boyfriend and I are looking at engagement rings, and I'm wondering what people's experiences have been like with Brian Gavin? Where does this vendor fall in terms of quality, communication, turnaround time, price, etc??

Any information would be appreciated!

BGD is a very reputable company. They specialize in RBs, princesses, and a specific type of cushion, and they do lovely work.

They aren't the cheapest outfit but as with anything else you get what you pay for - prices are reasonable for the quality of stones, settings, and services you get. If you're looking at a specific stone or setting post it and we can tell you more.

As with any other vendor, spend two minutes at the beginning talking to your rep about your expectations re. communication and everyone will be the happier for it..

Turnaround time depends on a lot of things - I generally plan a 6 week window for custom work, if it's done earlier I'm happily surprised ::)

I have had 3 wonderful experiences with them! Very professional and perfectionists too boot! Incredible quality. Check out the testimonials section under the forum heading on top of each page plus the side bar with related topics. You'll read a lot of positive reviews, I'm sure.

I have had two wonderful experiences with Brian Gavin Diamonds. I have spoken with Lesley and Brian over the phone and they are both totally professional and very concerned with customer satisfaction.

I purchased a setting (Truth x 3) and had my own diamonds put in it, and the turnaround was about 3 weeks. I also recently sent them a ring I purchased on Diamond Bistro (a pre-owned jewelry classified)that was originally purchased from Brian Gavin Diamonds and has Brian Gavin Signature .05 melee in it (the Dream half eternity) and had them size and repolish it to look like new. Turnaround was 1 week. I just picked it up and it knocked my socks off. Superb quality, wonderful customer service.

Best of luck to you. I highly recommend BGD!!

I also had great experiences with bgd for my e ring and a pendant. I wanted the pendant done for my engagement party, and I think I gave them like a week from when I placed the order and when I needed it and they got it out ASAP and by the party!

Their diamonds are super sparkly, and they are really nice and accommodating. Their prices are a little more than other online companies, but I totally think it's worth it.

HAve you spoken with anyone at BGD yet? I have dealt mainly with Denise but have also had great conversations with Lesley and once, with Brian himself. They will totally "GET" what it is you are looking for and do their utmost to deliver on time. In my most recent situation, I had a Barbara pendant made and it was to be delivered end of June while I was on vacation. I had another ring that I ended up returning and in early June, I contacted them to see if there was any chance they may be able to remake my 3 stone in a trellis setting AND could I pick it up when I'm on vacation at the same time the pendant is shipped??? Well - they did it! From the time I shipped off my stones from Canada via FedEx to their Houston office, it was designed, CAD approved, created and shipped to me all within about 2.5 weeks!!

Just wanted to share, that even on a tight time line, they have been known to come thru and deliver above and beyond!!

I second all the others. I have had several pieces from them, non super expensive yet each and every time I have dealt with them they go above and beyond and are super professionals! I have dealt with Lesley, she responds to emails, some at like 3:00 in the morning! I have even spoken to Brian on several occasions as I try to work out a dream setting( still no ring, but I will go with them when I can swing it)
He and I had a great conversation one evening as he gushed about his new Quadex stone.
Good luck!

I have worked with Brian directly on two projects. Both small compared to most pricescope projects. The first was a custom setting. Brian is extremely intuitive and was able create what was exactly in my head. He also made design suggestions that were way better than I had come up with. I was extremely happy with that project (I cried when I picked it up). I think turn around was 3-4 weeks.

The second was a set of studs. Brian picked several for me to view and then picked the best ones for me. Again, very happy. Turn around was 6 days.

I have not worked with any of the sales associates as I usually just call Lesley and make an appointment with Brian. We always end up visiting, sharing baby pics, and playing with diamonds.

I too have had good experiences with BGD. I have bought from them three times, two custom projects and one stock item. I am very pleased with the quality of the product and service. The turnaround time varied each time but was always what they advised it would be and I think depended on the time of year (two were toward end of year holiday season) and complexity of the piece. Prices seemed fine but I didn't get quotes from other vendors. For my last project a five stone ring I went with them even though I read other vendors may be cheaper, because buying sight unseen from Australia I felt most confident buying from them that I would be happy with the quality of setting and stones and if there were issues they'd address them without any drama. As it happened after a couple of days of having the ring a stone was loose. I discussed with brian and he assured me he would take care of it. At brian's request I took it to a local jeweler who advised what they thought needed to be done to fix the problem and relayed this to Brian. He thought about whether having his bench talking to the jeweler here and depending on what they said having them try and fix the problem at bgd's expense. However ultimately Brian wanted to ensure my ring was perfect and felt the only way to do so was to see it himself... I sent the ring back he and his bench decided to rebuild the ring completely and a few weeks later I got it back and it was perfect. Considering it would have been easier and cheaper for bgd to have someone here try and fix ring I think their bringing it back and rebuilding shows how they stand behind their product. I have mostly dealt with lesley and been very happy with the service. Hth.

I was very happy with my Brian Gavin experience. I am from Australia and bought an upgrade ring for an anniversary. I immediately got a good vibe from this company,I dealt with Jamie and her replies were always prompt. The turn around time for my ring was about three weeks, although I was not in a hurry to receive it. I think the diamond is beautiful and much larger and better quality than we could have afforded here. I found their website very good too. Most of what I needed to see and know was there to refer to.

I can only comment on their custom work. Whenever I have requested custom quotes they have always come in as the higest price (even over Leon and SK!!!!!) As a result I haven't gone with them for any custom projects beyond my DBTY necklace which I supplied the diamonds for.

However, Leslie was lovely to deal with whenever email or call her. Very nice customer service.

I've had the same experience, Sarahbear! Compared to the other reputable PS vendors, they have always given me super high quotes, way higher than anyone else.

I have had 3 experiences with BGD - my first set of studs, my upgraded studs, and a modification to my engagement ring. They really do provide a great product and excellent service (I worked with Denise for each transaction). I will say that there prices can be a little on the high side, depending on what you are looking for, but it's worth it to me to know that what I get will be exactly what I was looking for. If you go with them, I don't think you'll regret it.

I have had 2 experiences with them, diamond studs and a diamond tennis bracelet. Both times Lesley was fantastic, and the finished product was delivered early and magnificent.

I have not purchased anything directly from BGD, but my bezel studs are stones set in custom bezels from BGD that I purchased second-hand, and they are so lovely and perfect, I feel very lucky to have gotten them at a good price. I have e-mailed back and forth with Jamie a few times with questions. First, a quote for a custom Aurora band, like the one Gypsy designed, with tweaks, and then again to ask about a 5-stone trellis setting since I got a 5 stone ring on eBay and and just love the BGD trellis settings. Jamie responded quickly both times, answering all of my questions, and I was especially pleased to know that they were willing to set my non-certed OEC stones into their setting. I guess it's not surprising that most vendors won't set outside stones or stones without certificates, but that makes it hard to do a re-set of 5 .25 stones, so I was pleased.

I have purchased from Brian Gavin Diamonds many times and have only good things to say about them. I started working with them when they were at Whiteflash (Brian is the brain behind the A Cut Above diamond) and followed them when they started their own business.

I always work with Lesley and she looks after me very well.

I love the Elegance and Grace settings. You can't go wrong with either :))

Are phone calls generally the way to go with BGD? Or, what is the expected turn-around-time for email communications?

I've been fortunate with both. I've spoken right away with both Denise and Lesley, when I've called and I'd say email response can be anywhere instantly to about 24hours at the latest. If you don't get an email reply, then follow up with a phone call. You are NOT bothering them - they are happy to help you!

Thanks for your reply, Enerchi. Guess I will call to follow-up on Monday!

You can often get Lesley directly, if you call on a sunday ... you may just get your answer TODAY!! Go for it --- let us know what you find out!

Really?!?! I never would have guessed it! I will try today. Thanks again, Enerchi. I should also share that I've got my eye on a barbara pendant. Are you still loving yours? Do I even need to ask?

   Am I still loving it!?!?!  (Kidding! - I mean that in a funny way - don't want you thinking anything else!! )

Oh yes!!! :appl:  :appl: I love how it flashes in the car rear view mirror when the sun roof is open --- which I check only when I'm stopped, of course! ;)) I'm very happy I chose that design and that I went with BGD! Say hi to Lesley for me!

Experiences have been very good in the past, especially when dealing w/ Lesley!

I was also looking at getting an engagement ring through Brian Gavin. Just curious, does anyone know if you can see any sketches or designs for a custom ring before the CAD is produced? I see they charge for changes later in the process so I'm a little worried about paying before I see anything.

I also had great experiences with BGD.i bought 3 H&A stones plus 2 bangal bracelets from Lesley... :appl:

Another happy customer.

I've bought earrings, a diamond bezel band, they set an OEC into a pendant for me and they also made my three stone engagement ring.

I'm currently having a ring made. All of my emails were answered the same day within a few hours. Usually sooner than that but I think most of my emails were in the morning and they are a in another time zone so that accounted for that. I was very pleased with the response time. I have also called a couple times and got my rep once and the second time she called back within 20 minutes or so. So no complaints whatsoever on communication from me.

:wavey: LovesVintages - did you manage to connect with Lesley yesterday? How are things going with your quote??
