Belle and Mulan were both heroines that I loved. They were themselves and fought for things. I think I liked Little Mermaid too, but she defied her dad and risked her life for a guy she did not know, but I still love the movie.

Got this in an email this morning and it made me think of this thread...

This is the fairy tale that should have been read to us when we were little:
Once upon a time
in a land far away,
a beautiful, independent,
self-assured princess
happened upon a frog as she sat
contemplating ecological issues
on the shores of an unpolluted pond
in a verdant meadow near her castle.
The frog hopped into the princess'' lap
and said: '' Elegant Lady,
I was once a handsome prince,
until an evil witch cast a spell upon me.
One kiss from you, however,
and I will turn back
into the dapper, young prince that I am
and then, my sweet, we can marry
and set up housekeeping in your castle
with my mother,
where you can prepare my meals,
clean my clothes, bear my children,
and forever feel
grateful and happy doing so. ''
That night,
as the princess dined sumptuously
on lightly sautéed frog legs
seasoned in a white wine
and onion cream sauce,
she chuckled and thought to herself:
I don''t f***in’ think so.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Girls,
I wanted to resurrect this thread to say a big ''Thank you'' to all the suggestions regarding my little girl and her education in the ''Way of (Modern) Loving" a.k.a. (up to date) fairy tales

I finally got hold of ''The Paperbag Princess'' yesterday, and my baby LOVES it!!!!

She prefers it over her other stories, and today, we played the PaperBag Princess game. I was the Princess and she was the Dragon!

Usually, her favourite game is Sleeping Beauty - where I play the Prince who kisses her and then marries her with lots of dancing.

We have to read the story three times in a row, and several times a day.

At the end, when Elizabeth calls Rupert a toad and they don''t get married, she says, every time: ''Because that''s what happens to real princesses sometimes''.

So I''m stoked. Here''s to my clued-up gorgeous girl being street wise - or at least on the same page as her prospective boyfriend - in the dating game! Thanks again.

Also, if anyone has any other suggestions for modern fairy tales, I''d love to hear them!
