Family Diamond in Gabriel & Co Halo Setting

I used to post on here a few years back and have been lurking more recently. The reason for the lurking - I got engaged on Valentine's Day! The diamond is an older (but unfortunately not OMC or OEC) family diamond that his mom gave us. He had it reset in Gabriel & Co setting 7293 in 14K white gold.

We are waiting to get the appraisal in the mail to see the stats on the diamond. They told him it is .65 carats, but that's all we know for sure until the paperwork arrives. (He was too nervous picking up the ring to ask then. =) ) It isn't as clear as I would like it to be - I can see some inclusions. Sometimes it looks bright white, and sometimes it looks like it has a little color. It depends on the lighting. Honestly, we really didn't see the color until it was next to the bright side stones in this setting. I would guess maybe an I in color, but I'm certainly no expert. The girl at the jewelry store said the cut was good, but she wasn't an appraiser, so I don't know how good that info was. But anyway, we were thankful for the diamond, and his mom is really honored that I am wearing it. Having just bought a house and furniture, it saved him a lot of money that wasn't in the budget at the moment anyway. He said that we might replace it at some point with an antique cushion cut, which is what I really wanted before we got this stone.

The ring is super sparkly. It is a size 6.5 and gives just the right amount of finger coverage. When I was searching for pictures of the setting, I couldn't find any hand shots - only the vendor images - so I thought I'd post some of my own.

It looks really pretty on you!!! Congrats and enjoy!!!

Congratulations!! It's a beautiful setting! I love that antique feel to it - just beautiful! It looks so well suited to the diamond and perfect on your finger :appl:

For the proposal, he made me a candlelight dinner at home and we opened a bottle of wine that we had purchased on a trip for our one year anniversary last May. I took a few pictures of the ring and the cork from our proposal dinner.

Congratulations! The ring is beautiful on your finger and how very special that it is a family heirloom. I'm sure there is a lot of pride and sentiment in that stone and that is something you cannot buy. A diamond is always just a diamond until it is shared and loved by people. You have more than an engagement ring - you have a treasure! Enjoy!

Its very pretty and I love the setting you chose! 20 years down the road you can put it in a pendant
And replace it with the cushion you want. Congratulations! !!

So beautiful!!! Which Gabriel setting is it? I'd love to see a profile shot!

I completely agree - that's what makes diamonds so special.

Does your FMIL love it as much as you do?

Krispi, your "new" heirloom ring is absolutely gorgeous! Perfect finger coverage and super sparkly! What more could a girl want?? Congrats on your engagement!

Wow, thanks for all the comments! Sorry for the delay in posting - we had family show up for dinner right as I entered that last post.

I have a few more pictures that I took on the flowers he gave me for Valentine's Day.

This one is blurry, but you can see some of the fire and sparkle. The ring sparkles so much from every angle.

And this is the blurry iPhone pic he took right after he put it on my finger.

I may just do that... We'll see how big of a priority it is down the road.

Krispi your ring is gorgeous! The setting is so impressive and the entire ring looks beautiful on your hand
I love the idea of having a family heirloom stone. Congratulations on your engagement!

Thanks, but I can't take all the credit. I told him I liked the Tiffany Legacy style and that I wanted a cushion shaped halo, and he took it from there. He picked the ring out based on my likes, and he couldn't have done a better job!

I agree. That's a beautiful sentiment. His mom has already instructed me that this is to be passed down to our children as well.

Yes, she was thrilled when she saw the stone in its new setting. She had it in an older yellow gold solitaire that I don't think showed it off nearly as well.

Very nice profile! He did do a great job! :appl:

Congratulations, it is very pretty!

Beautiful ring - I love the graduated side stones, and the fact that the center stone is from the family. Congratulations!
