Fancy pink diamond halo.. rose gold or platinum?

Hello again!

In my quest to design my dream setting, I am leaning towards a fancy pink diamond halo. I have spoken to a few local jewellers and all of them said, without a doubt, that they would not suggest setting them in anything other than rose gold. I understand the motivation behind this as they claim the diamonds would barely show up pink if set in platinum, but I am willing to pay the premium for more intense pink diamonds in order to set them in platinum. The two toned metal look is not for me, even if it is very subtle.

I have scoured the internet looking for examples of pink diamond jewelry (where the pink is not the main stone) set without rose gold. Fail! Seems like an impossible task. There are quite a few of pink sapphires but it's not quite the same effect. Do the talented PS experts have any on hand? Any opinions on this preference?

Yes I have and eye candy it is! I had noticed that they are all set in rose gold and I'm having such a hard time finding pink diamonds set in plat :?

In terms of the photos? As long as they are not the vivid pink sapphires that obviously don't need any help from rose gold.. I'm looking to see what the intensity of a pink diamond will look like against platinum:)

What is going to make you happy, knowing they are pink diamonds, or the color pink?

If you look at the photos here: http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/index.php/jewelry/Halo-Pink-diamond-466ct-fancy-light-yellow-vs2-radiant-great-price-gia-r3882

You will see that while the yellow radiant, looks like intense canary in some lighting, and a very nice light yellow in others, while the pink melee is AT BEST just a bit darker than baby pink.

I have seen these and noticed that those diamonds are quite light, which is why i'm opting for more intense pink diamonds, but it seems like no one has ever done this before?

Have you gotten a price quote for intense pink diamonds?

My fiancé is getting it made once I decide exactly what I want and I doubt he will tell me the cost. The more intense pink diamonds set in platinum instead of rose gold was his idea and suggestion. I was quoted not too long ago the option of a (standard) pink halo instead of white by VC as an additional 1800$.

Something like this?

A stunning halo of Argyle pink diamonds….
April 3rd, 2012

Recently completed by our workshop, this stunning handcrafted Platinum engagement ring features a centre 1.50ct round brilliant cut diamond surrounded by a halo of grain set, Argyle pink diamonds and white brilliant cut diamonds in the shoulders.

While the image is stunning, this piece can only truly be appreciated in person. Come in and see it for yourself in Leederville….

Thank you, from the pictures, I think if the diamonds are pink enough it will look very nice.

I think it would be lovely, but is there a way that you & your SO could see some of these options (pink halo in plat? Pink halo in plat w/ "hidden" RG inlay) in person?

Pictures can be tricky because the lighting, camera settings, angles can all have an effect on what something really looks like. So I think it'd be helpful (& a lot of fun) if you could check things out in person, even if it meant a trip to a city w/ a good selection, just to see what they look like IRL.

Wonder if you could contact David at DBL and ask him for specific pics of things they have made in the past with deeper pink stones in white metal. Maybe he can easily access some pics to send you. Worth a call/email just to check it out!

Is Victor making the ring? I would ask his opinion. Perhaps he could make it all platinum but put a little rose gold under each pink diamond to enhance the color. I actually would like this better because pink diamonds and rose gold are usually not the same color!

I assume these are sapphires but if it helps

I would have really loved to have either VC or SK make the ring from all the beautiful pieces they have made for PSers that I have seen but my fiancé prefers to have it made where is he working, in Dubai, and promises that the ring will exceed my expectations or else it will be re-made until it does (his words after I voiced my concerns of not being able to personally interact with whoever will be making it). So I hope to have a ring to showcase soon.. going on 3 months without having a setting for my diamond.

I have been on a hunt myself.. I live in Montreal right behind the diamond district, went to Tiffany, Kaufmann de Suisse, Chateau d'Ivoire, etc and none of these had any pink diamonds (maybe a diamond melee key necklace with one tiny pink diamond surrounded by pink gold at Tiffany). The closest thing I found was this band at Tiffany. I really liked the look of the sapphires and white diamonds.

I wish I had time to fly out to cities that had some!

That really is the perfect pink. It *can* be done!

Do you like it?

I do like it a lot! If it would have been with claw prongs, like he debated, it would have been very close to what I am thinking about doing. It is also the same color as my diamond and I really like the contrast. Noticeable, yet more subtle than pink sapphires, which is what I would like to achieve. There is a 2 carat round pink halo on diamondsbylauren but the center diamond color is much lower and I had a hard time figuring out how it would look with a whiter diamond, and of course no rose gold. Thank you!

I agree that I would like prongs, too! Can't wait to see your finished ring!
