YESSSS!!!! THe most gorgeous vivid blue diamond I've ever seen in a real depiction (not photoshopped or enhanced).

Thanks Chrono!

Here it is on the news, and obviously they're not enhancing it here, although I'm sure the studio lights help the color a bit.

I've seen this before, it is impressive, definitely nicer than the blues I've seen

ETA: The lady in the video said something like 'We decided to cut it into a cushion shape, because it is a very charming shape'
So it had nothing to do with which cut will wield most weight, bring out the best colour and avoid inclusions? It's either a carelessly chosen decision or silly commentary because the general public aren't so interested in that (the latter is probably true).

This is interesting to for you, LoversKites. These HGBV Diamonds ( Hydrogen rich Gray to Blue to Violet) are not colored by boron.

Boron in Type IIb diamond produces blue but also gray diamonds....

Thanks Marlow, I'll check out the document soon.

Ah I see, so the boron is responsible both blue and grey which is why those colours are so often found together. Do you know what determines how much grey is together with blue? If that makes sense. There must be a difference chemically between a fancy vivid blue and blue-grey.

I like to do it for you!!! :D

If you use an ipad or another tablet - there is a good app - a pdf reader - you can open these pdf there and storage them offline....

I have a 64 GB ipad - this app is perfect - I wish I could mineralogy today...

Yes, probably the optimal shape was chosen to yield the best clarity, size, color, etc. . .

Can you believe the rough gem cost $29 million. One can only imagine how much this will sell for. The rough was more than what Graff paid for the historic 31 carat Whittelsbach blue diamond.

When a rough gem cost that much, you can bet your first born that they pretty much worked really hard on analyzing that diamond for optimal cut.

Yes, but the Wittelsbach was very cheap!!

It actually broke auction records at the time, but prices have been going crazy ever since.

Greens can be nicely saturated, although that's rare. Most are pretty greyish from what I've seen. If it's too saturated, like a tsavorite for example, I would suspect artificial irradiation treatment or coating.

Yes, definitely rare. I've noticed higher saturation in pinks, yellows and some oranges like the one below. This is an FCD I'd love to see in person. (vivid orange, 1.1ct, I1)

ETA -- my avatar sphalerite probably looks just as nice ;))

ETA2: Since my eyes are not as sharp as some here, do others see brown in the fcd? (sorry for diverting the thread)

I think your avatar sphalerite is nicer. If only sphalerite was harder. Can you imagine a diamond this color, size, and with this much dispersion????

Less then 1Million pct - a 0,17 ct HGBV offered for 500K pct!!!!

And it is ( was?) a famous historical diamond before Mr. Graff did what he did ( still a bit angry....) !!

TL

D. Gravier offered calibrated sphalerite from deep brown - orange - yellow to green - 6mm round, ovals.......

Wonderful....

But you can't really set them, and even if you did, they would be so prone to damage. :-(

Yes, but the color range - keep it in a gem box and enjoy them..

He offered the sphalerite together with fine titanite - next time I make a picture....you need sunglasses!!!

Scheelite is nice too - 4,5-5 hardness - still to soft.

This one looks quite a bit like those greenish yellow ones...
