Been shopping around for awhile. Checked with local jewelers and online retailers.
Local Jeweler has .72 CT (in house-spec) fancy yellow princess cut for $5000
Setting is 18k white gold band, head, and yellow gold prongs. Split shank halo square edges rounded on the corners. Pave 3/4 down the band and around the head. The support structure of the head is white gold. .78 CT with 72 diamonds small diamonds.
Asking $3200.
Combined is $7000.
I requested more larger center stones closer to 1 CT of similar spec and they quoted 8,000 for the stone alone. A .75 Fancy INTENSE yellow they quoted $8,000 also. I feel they are asking too much.
Total combined price was $10-11K.
I have found online at retailer for a center stone that I like a lot.
.91 CT Fancy intense yellow Radiant. GIA: ($5000)
Specs:
Fancy Intense Yellow Even Color
VS1
65% depth
71% table
polish: very good
symmetry: very good
fluorescence: none
Length to width: 1.04
Measurements: 5.29 x 5.11 x 3.63 mm
Seen pictures looks good, I like the stone. My fiance to be liked the stone also. She prefers a slightly larger table so this stone matches perfectly.
I like the stone a lot and the value seems to be much better than the local jeweler. The issue is that I loved the setting in the jewelry store but they don't want to sell me just the setting. I contacted various online retailers to ask if they can make a similar setting. I provided the pictures and specs.
I asked the retailer if they could design a similar setting and they are in the process of checking. They came back and said the prongs would be yellow along with the head. They said this would give more yellow to the stone. What are your opinions on this?
Does this mean that where the diamond rests it is yellow but the support structures for the halo/head are still white gold? What do you think of having a head that is part yellow gold when viewed from the side while the rest of the ring is white gold?
Price is coming in at $2800-3000 but they will also mount the stone. 14k gold, 48 stones, .43 CT, square edges rounded corners on halo
Thanks for any feedback.
BTW the jewerler said online retailers get all the last picks of diamonds and they get the best. Essentially any online retailer diamond is stuck with left-overs that B&M stores didn't want. I understand B&M stores have large overheads and more profit margins but I know this isn't true.
