Hello,
I have bought faux emerald beads on eBay. The seller said that stones are natural emerald. But it costs $3 for 15" strand. So I cant believe in that :). Can you make some suggestion what beads can it be? Thank you in advance.

Ummm...isn't the definition of faux = fake? If indeed natural, then they are likely to be of poor quality and / or treated up the wazoo.

Hello,
I have a picture. What can you say?

It's green? :cheeky: No one can ID treatment or gem type by photos alone. It needs to be seen in person under magnification and probably have some simple tests run for verification.

If it's listed as "faux" then it's definitely synthetic. Vendors are very savvy and if there was even a hint of "real" about this strand you can get your life the word "faux" wouldn't be in the listing.

I like the color and as long as I like it, its not toxic or illegal, and I'm paying an appropriate amount, I don't care what the material is...

I think it's the OP who is calling the beads faux - it's mentioned in the post that the seller stated in the listing they were natural emeralds. I guess the OP is second-guessing that because the item was inexpensive.

Doesn't necessarily have to be synthetic. Could also be an imitation material which is what I'd put my money on. Glass or something.

True, it could well be an emerald stimulant as well, which is more likely because that is less expensive.

I don't know are they faux or fake emerald. But I think it is more likely to be fake emerald maybe dyed quartz. What tests can help me to understand what gem is it?

For how little you paid, it is not worth the cost of having them tested. I doubt you have the right equipment nor the necessary skill to self test / verify.

What Chrono said... they are some sort of simulant. Synthetic would also be too expensive. Synthetic is emerald made in a lab. Simulant is something that looks like it. I think they look more like a jade simulant myself. And for the coup de grace... if the stones had been that clean, natural emeralds, those would have been cabbed and sold for about $200-1000 each.
