I just wanted to share what we''re thinking of for favors. We really want to do pint glasses because, well, we have a big collections of pint glasses (many stolen from bars
41.gif
) that we use as our drinking glasses. We''re also serving our favorite beers on tap at the wedding, so we''re hoping the venue can serve them in the favor glasses and then people can take them home at the end of the night (it''s almost like they''re stealing them, right?
3.gif
). So here''s what I''ve come up with today. Where it should say "Guiness" it now says FI''s last name (soon to be mine), but I''ve blurred out all last names. I was also excited that on the small print, I could use my last name where it says "Under the direct supervision and quality standards of ____ LTD."

We weren''t sure what to put under "extra stout", so we went with "signatures" in red, just like the original. Let me know what you think! I''m totally up for suggestions for things to add or subtract, as this is only my first stab at the logo.

I think they are really cool! I wouldn''t change a thing.

Uhh, I did not mean to post the version with our actual last names. Oops!! Hopefully the mods will take it down soon.

Here''s the version I meant to post with the simpler alternative harp design:

I like the simpler harp the best. Awesome favors, though!

Awesome idea! I prefer the fancier harp, myself, but both versions are nice. Your guests are going to love these!

First off, awesome idea!

Secondly, I'm taking it you're from the Hudson Valley area??? I am too!!

ETA: Definitely the fancier harp!

I live in CT, but we''re getting married in the Hudson Valley. Where are you from?

Wappingers Falls, NY... Dutchess County.

Thanks hawaiinorangetree, princessplease, and thing2!! I''m really excited about them and glad I finally got around to paintshopping it all together. It''s one of those things I''ve been putting off for a long time. I kind of like the fancy harp better, but FI likes the simple one. I may just leave it up to the pint glass company to tell me what would look better after printing.

Yay Wappingers! FI works in Fishkill and most of our friends live in the Wappingers/Poughkeepsie area, so I''m very familiar with it! If I can get a job near there, we would definitely move out of CT as we''re only here so I''m closer to my work. Oh, and we''re getting married in Beacon.

Oh what a small world. Is he originally from this area? I am not but FI is... he grew up in Wappingers.

Wow, in Beacon? FI and I both work there.

What kind of job are you looking for? Maybe I know of something.

Actually, neither of us are from the area, we just got jobs here after college. I''m looking for pretty much anything engineering related, though I currently work for a food company so that''s where my experience is. Know of anything?

I love Beacon; it''s such a cute town! FI''s work-friend has the best place right downtown and I''d love to live there. Danbury is ok, and a good middle distance from both of our offices, but it doesn''t even have as much going on as Beacon or Wappingers.

I don''t know of anything off the top of my head but I can do some asking around. I''m sure there is something out there.

Beacon is nice for the most part. I like a few of their bars. Ever done their pub crawl?

I used to love Danbury for the Christmas Tree Shop but now that we have one in Poughkeepsie, there is no need to go there. But you are right, it doesn''t quite seem to have as much going on as the Wappingers/Fishkill area.

wow i love that idea!!

Mini threadjack, but I couldn''t resist chiming in - I''m from Wappingers too!

And I LOVE your favor idea elrohwen! Personally I like the fancy harp more but the simple one is really nice too!

if you wouldn''t mind sharing, what company is making these lovely glasses for you? pint glasses, steins, and shot glasses are the most common souvenirs M would get from attending/playing birthday balls so we were thinking of attempting a personalized glass of some sort for our favors
5.gif
and i agree, why buy glasswear when it''s so readily available?

also, love the modified guinness design! perhaps you can have half with the fancy harps and half with the plain so you could end up with his and hers pints later.

Awesome!!! Born and raised here or moved here?? Ahh, it''s so awesome that I''ve found people in my area!!!

Thanks cocolaw!

Winslet, yay for another Hudson Valley-er! And we have the same wedding day too. Weird!

Squirrly, we haven''t picked a company yet, actually. Many seem to get very expensive the more colors you do, but this design requires 4 I think (maybe you could get it to 3??). So I''m waiting to hear back from one or two to see if they can take my design and reduce the color count to make it affordable. It''s fairly easy to find companies online, but their prices are so different. I''ll post again whenever I figure out who we''re going with.

thanks!
i looked on the guinness site to see if they had any vintage logos that used less color, but ended up finding this instead. so if they suggest cutting it down to two colors it might end up something like this:

pewterlogo.jpg

Squirrly, that''s awesome! I should put one together in those colors and see how it looks. It really looks pretty nice in two colors and that would probably shave off significant cost.

hey did you know that you''re getting married the day after guinness'' 250th anniversary celebration kicks off? they''re celebrating Arthur''s day at 17:59 on september 24th (Arthur Guinness'' b-day, he founded the guinness brewery) and it''s a world-wide celebration, kicking off then in ireland and the party continues through the 25th

Hahaha. That''s awesome! I''m gonna have to make sure our venue is providing Guiness. Actually, we want to have pub trivia at the wedding, so maybe we''ll use this as one of the questions.

I think these are terrific favors! In fact, it is the only non-consumable favor that I have ever seen and thought that I would use (and love to get!).

I like the fancier logo better, but both are great.

Can I ask you a question (or two) about your pub quiz? Where does it fall in your timeline? And, how many rounds are you going to have? We are starting to write our questions for ours now!

you should use it as one of your questions and i happened to find one using just one color, though i wish i found a pic with a filled glass just to see the full effect.

I think it''s a really great idea. I love it!

hi elrohwen :)

i love the idea in principle, but - just to be clear...

you know 'stout' means 'somewhat fat or of a heavy build'? so say your name was 'smith' first names mary sue and johnny bob - you'd basically be saying....

The Smiths

Rather Fat and of Extra Heavy Build

Mary Sue and Johnny Bob.

i'm not sure that's the vibe you want to be putting out.... but on the other hand, it might not worry you.

it's a personal choice.

Lol, yes, absolutely. FI''s only better suggestion was "Extra Pale" because of my skin color and freckles
3.gif
We''re both tall and relatively thin (as are our familes) so I''m not worried at all about the other meaning of stout. I actually think it''s kind of funny since it''s ironic.
2.gif
It''s still up for debate if we come up with something better, but nothing has struck us yet.

Uhh, those are really good questions that I should know the answer to, but I haven't thought that far ahead
41.gif
I *think* it will fall after dinner and during the dancing portion. There will be a break in dancing and everyone will go back to their tables to answer questions as a team (or they can just stay on the dance floor and not participate, if they want to be party poopers
25.gif
). I think maybe 2-3 rounds of 4 questions each?? I really don't know.

The trivia we play at a bar allows you to pick a point value for the question as you're answering it. So in the first round, you can assign the question 1, 3, 5, or 7 points as you're turning in the answer based on how right you think it is. But you can only use each point value once per round. You also know the catagories at the start of the round, so you can say "Well, we're good at science, so hopefully we can give that question a high point value when it comes up." I love playing this way, but I'm a bit worried that it might be too confusing to explain to everyone after a few beers. So maybe we'll just assign the point values ahead of time so that people just have to write down their answers and hand them in.

How are you structuring it? Are you giving prizes? I was thinking of a bottle of champagne for the winning table because I can't think of anything better.

ETA: Now that I'm thinking about it, maybe it would be better placed between dinner courses? People will have already had lots of appetizers (they better, I'm paying for a ton!) so they shouldn't be dying of hunger enough that they'll care if they take 5 minutes to do some trivia. That way they'd already be sitting down and with their tables. I dunno ... what were you thinking?

ETA2: Oh, and thank you for your kind words! I particularly loved your Katamari invitations (my MOH loves that game, so I sent them to her too) so I think we have similar taste
5.gif

that is such a rad idea!!
