This stone isn't step cut, but it's slightly neon, could be easily set E-W, and has a really pretty kite in the cut. (I think I remembering you stating she likes kite settings, so maybe she'd appreciate a kite in the stone itself.)

Yeah I love that stone. She seems to hate ovals. I'm still showing her as I think its pretty.

Re: FBIL saga... went strait to the source.

Good luck with the hunt!

Did you ever finish that project?? Looks fun!

Nope, never did. I ended up selling all my stones and doing an avc three stone. I almost don't even like looking at my old cs threads b/c it makes me miss them. I did keep my round semi bezel chryso tho.

Re: FBIL saga... went strait to the source.

So I emailed Peter and he said he might have just what I'm looking for. Its a stone that he picked up for s recut, its already a step cut rectangle, so he'd just do it "better" and in the chartreuse color I'm looking for. Should have pictures some time this week, and should give me at least enough left for a really decent solitaire for the time being. :D I shouldn't but I have my hopes up.

Re: FBIL saga... went strait to the source.

I hope what Peter has for you works out.

But another option would be to contact Wink and see what he has up his sleeve. I know he does the Octavia Asscher Cuts in a form that can't be named that really sparkle and I *think* I've seen them in other colors. Might be a good option in general or just until they can save to replace it with something they love later on down the road. I don't mind them myself and I would probably keep it forever but it's an option too!

Re: FBIL saga... went strait to the source.

Yeah I'm hoping this works out too!

I had an idea of having it set e/w with baguettes on the sides.

I found a used one I could get for cheap but do you think someone could reset the head????

I've reached out to one bench so far they said it might not work.

Re: FBIL saga... went strait to the source.

Niel,
Can you post a picture of the setting, both top down and the profile view? Some benches won't touch this type of work but some are willing and skilled enough for such modification. I've had one that swapped out an oval basket for a rectangular basket on an integrated type setting. Of course the caveat is that it isn't as strong as it was originally because it was a single solid cast piece.

Re: FBIL saga... went strait to the source.

This is the current one I'm hoping my work. Otherwise i also considered just a normal baguette one like my current marquise setting.

I know its gold but she did like the setting, is OK with gold, and worse case its cheap so it can be them rhodium plated maybe? Till they reset it.

Re: FBIL saga... went strait to the source.

The good news:
You want to keep the yellow gold basket because chrysoberyls look great in YG, so plating is unnecessary since she doesn't mind YG.
Looks like it'll fit a square stone so if you get an asscher, no basket modification is needed.

The bad news:
Asschers are DEEP so it might not fit. A way around it is to rebuild the prongs so a deep stone can fit BUT it costs $ which his budget is tight to begin with. Each prong might be around $75 each, so 4 prongs = $300 thereabouts. A square cushion might fit though.
Rectangular stones are out. Looking at the way it is joined, I can see why changing the basket shape is not recommended.

Rats.

I was hoping sense I'd be setting it E/W that it might be double. If done that way, only the width between the left and right sides would have to be bigger, wouldn't have to stretch the N/S size or prongs.

Re: FBIL saga... went strait to the source.

i wonder if Diamond zone could make what im looking for :read:

i shot them an email

I showed her this specific stone and she liked it. Only problem is its 300 ish.... which is OK, but that leaves 400ish for the setting, which would be used to find with diamonds, wed have to probably go used and get a new head... but even that would be hard to do.

Jeff has another trilliant chrysoberyl around the same size as the one you posted that is only $185, shipped, which would give you a bit more to spend on a setting.

It's going to depend on whether Stuller sets the accent diamonds or your local jeweler does and what their mark up is for Stuller pieces. But I did notice at the bottom of the listing, it says it's CounterSketch compatible. If any of the local jewelers (or distance who are willing to work over email) have countersketch they can modify that setting in a lot of ways- like for a trillion center- and Stuller will make it to order. I have seen a demo of the software and it's pretty freaking cool. But you do have to find a jeweler who is using it.

Re: FBIL saga... went strait to the source.

I have a Stuller setting I ordered in silver for a custom project. It is sturdy and it's also very pretty. I did not pay too much for mine but it pays to shop around.

Re: FBIL saga... went strait to the source.

What do you guys think of this..... if I can get it for what I bid, I'd have a local place replace the head. They seem to think they could do it. Thoughts? It would be a basket kind of like the emerald pic (hopefully)

Re: FBIL saga... went strait to the source.

How disappointed will you be if
a) They end up not being able to do it.
b) They do a not so great job?

I would just buy a setting that already fits. I've had a bad experience before with a custom job, and had to find someone to replace the head for me (which they did successfully, but it was very stressful.)

Yeah your probably right.

I've spoken to someone from American setting co and I think we might have found the perfect thing

Re: FBIL saga... went strait to the source.

They say they can do the basket I want in yellow gold :D

It would put it at about $350 I think, and they would set it for me, I don't know the price of that though. Shipping the stone shouldn't be too much though.

Re: FBIL saga... went strait to the source.

Pretty setting from American Set Co.!
If the stone from Peter ends up not working out, perhaps you should ask for some more photos of this stone:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2CTS-AMAZIN...080?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53fc99bfb0
I have no experience with this vendor, so am not endorsing it in any way; the stone look like it's along the lines of what you're looking for, however.

Oh god that's beautiful...... I wonder if anyone has used them before. Maybe I should start a thread?

Re: FBIL saga... went strait to the source.

The risk is that a lurker will scoop it up if you ask about a specific seller in a new thread, but frankly I think that a risk has already been created by my post. It's up to you as to whether an increased risk is worth it in order to get feedback on this seller from PS members who have FAR more knowledge than me and who may have experience with this vendor. Good luck again!
