Hello- I have been referred to this site by a friend who says it helped him out a great deal.... I am looking at diamonds, and I am curious-

1. Is GIA SI-1 a safe bet as long as it is deemed eye clean?

2. Is a feather going to affect durability/ structure?

3. Is a knot going to affect structure/durability?

4. Does the table camoflage inclusions better than another place on diamond?

Thanks so much!

1) safe bet in terms of what?

2) Depends on where and how severe and extensive it is, no way to tell from image or clarity plot, the vendor/gemologist will have to look at it personally to determine that.

3) same as above.

4) depends on the cut and what kind of inclusions, again a case by case subject that you/vendor/gemologist will have to determine.

1. Is GIA SI-1 a safe bet as long as it is deemed eye clean? Should be if verified eyeclean to your standards and the cut is great, plus you are ok with SI clarity grades.

2. Is a feather going to affect durability/ structure? This is unusual in SI clarity grades but always get a trusted expert to inspect the stone for you.

3. Is a knot going to affect structure/durability? Again this is unusual but always best to get an expert to check.

4. Does the table camoflage inclusions better than another place on diamond? It depends on the particular diamond, some prefer inclusions to be placed around the crown facets as they believe this can hide inclusions better than directly under the large table facet, also it can depend on the shape of the diamond, for example step cuts can show inclusions more easily than rounds. Some prefer inclusions to be located in the side view ( pavilion) but there are diamonds out there with inclusions placed under the table that can't be seen or seen easily, check with your vendor in any case or inspect the stone carefully yourself in various lighting conditions. If you are viewing the stone yourself for 'eyecleanliness' try not to loupe the diamond first as once you spot the inclusions your eyes automatically know where to look so view with the naked eye in different lighting conditions first then loupe.

Hi BA02 and welcome!

Thats great that your friend referred you to us, positive feedback is always welcome!

See my thoughts above concerning your questions.

Do you have a particular diamond in mind? If so, you could post all the info here so we could help you evaluate the cut if you wish.

Don''t have a specific one yet,I will post if I find one today..I am looking online. It just seems easier to me! I am looking at round diamonds.

Will something on the table of an si1 change the way the diamond looks?

Shouldn''t do if the diamond is eyeclean.
