I am completely shocked!!! We went in to Kay''s last night with the intention of upgrading my center stone. (I had a 3-stone). It was a very pretty ring that he picked out but the center stone had a visible inclusion. He hadn''t noticed it when he bought it and it bothered him later. I won''t lie...it kinda stood out to me, too, but I was okay with it. I loved my ring''s "personality" and was quite content. Anyhow, when he mentioned we could switch out the center sometime soon as over the past 8 months of engagement, he''s put away more money with which to do this I was sooooo excited!!! So we go to Kays and it turns out they have a loose diamond event 4 x''s/year and they bring in these outside vendors with settings etc. OMG they were beautiful and I''ve NEVER seen anything like it at Kay''s (or zales or beldens etc) before. They had some GORGEOUS pieces.
To upgrade my center stone, I had to spend double what my original stone cost but that particular amount would put us into a stone that would have been SO much higher in clarity that my side stones would''ve looked mismatch. We hadn''t realized that. So, the only other reasonable option was to upgrade the whole thing. We both had no idea that it would come down to that and wern''t intellectually nor emotional prepared for it but apparently my fiance was ready financially as I noticed he used his debit card to pay for it
(I was so relieved as although I felt upgrading was a neat idea in theory, I totally could''ve waited another year or so until we could do it right.....i.e. no credit cards). I was floored that we were about to do what we did!!!
It was actually very bittersweet and I had a few tears in my eyes letting go of my first engagement ring but when I tried on this new setting and they put my new diamond in the prongs for me, I knew that my now new ering was the one I was supposed to wear. He felt the same way. We felt so connected to it and the whole process of picking the stone and the setting and then watching the diamond ring-fixer-guy size it and buff it and put my diamond in the prongs was just sooooo unforgettable. We were there for 4 hours!!!! (It took a lot of deciding and talking and information gathering). And the icing on the cake was that my new ering is custom and they only made 6 of my settings and they don''t make them again after those 6 are sold so my piece is unique AND.....it came with a delicious matching wedding band that I can''t WAIT to wear as it so totally looks like it belongs with that wband!! (So symbolic
)
So, let me try to get some pics........................I feel so lucky right now and just had to share.
