Thanks everybody! Nearly 2.5 weeks later and she is MUCH more in love with the ring that I had expected her to be.

I proposed at the Peninsula Hotel in Chicago. She was always a fan of that place - one of her favorite movies has been Wanted with Angelina Jolie and she always commented on how they stayed at an entire floor at the Peninsula. Well, lo behold I wanted to provide her with some shock and awe so I decided to forego the Four Seasons, the Ritz Carlton, and the Trump International.

I booked a room at the 18th floor - where Angelina and Brad stayed during the filming and checked in the morning of.

I didn't want to be checking in when I brought my now-fiance there, I wanted it to be one fluid motion and have her jaw on the floor the entire time.

I picked her up from her apartment where she insisted that we stay at home for dinner - which was about to ruin my surprise. I insisted that we go to the city for some steak... after some coaxing, she agreed and got ready. Since I have a loft in the city, she asked if she could stay over - and I said ok.

She brought a fresh pineapple and a large knife with her. She wanted to eat it when we got to my place...

Anyway, she was sitting in my car - with the pineapple and knife (unopened in a sealed retail packaging) on her lap. She fell asleep on the latter half of the trip, it was somewhat traffic on the way to the city.

I pulled out of the highway, we were in the city at approximately 8pm. There was a horse/carriage right next to us at one point and she woke up. Right about then, I pulled onto the front door of the Peninsula and the valets overwhelmed my car - and her door! She did not know what was going on! She got out of the car and was all confused! I got out calmly and handed over my keys.

Before she knew it, we were in the lobby of a 5 star hotel with a pineapple and a large knife! She had no idea where to put it!

Anyway, I had a small bag with me and she quickly stuffed it in while blushing.

She thought we were going in there to eat at one of the restaurants but I quickly whisked her to the elevators. Along the way she mentions, "this is where Angelina stayed! They stayed at the eighteenth floor!"

"Oh really?" I asked.

Now in the elevator, I pressed 18.

She lit up.. and I was thinking to myself - this elevator has to move faster!! She's still in fantasy land! I don't want reality to sink in just yet for her!

We got out of the elevator, crossed the hall, and though for a minute I forgot the room number - we found our way to our room.

I opened the window curtains and told her how much she meant to me. She was too enthralled with the room that I couldn't get her to stand still in one spot - she kept walking around and checking out the suite!!

I dropped on one knee and asked her, "Will you marry me?"

Popped out the Tacori box.... flipped open the ring (sideways mind you - I was nervous!).... and she took 2 seconds (which seemed like an eternity)... and said "YES!"

I got scared because she paused, but in hindsight - I think she was shocked at the ring which was why she was somewhat speechless for a second or two (or so I think)!

Anyway, the night went on for much longer - we ate at one of the restaurants, tried exploring the Magnificent Mile, tried exploring the hotel and crashing one of the wedding receptions going on.

We enjoyed our time together, the hotel was fantastic, the city was fantastic... breakfast was brought in with white glove service the next day - with a table! Everything went nearly as planned.... though I felt I stumbled in my speech a little bit.

We wanted another day to take it all in, but alas I had to go back to work.

To this day, she keeps thanking me for the ring..... she keeps staring at her fingers while I drive.... she says her co-workers (she's a pharmacist at Walgreens) always comment on it to the point where she gets embarrassed from all the attention (she flips it upside down sometimes

)!!

Thanks Pricescope for helping me find her a ring that makes her smile. I truly did not think that she would get as attached to it as it really has... she deserves it and more.

I told her that when we're in our 30s (3-5 years), she can have her 3+ct upgrade (and she knows I'm not kidding)! She just smiles and says, "...but I like my ring!!!"

Joey that''s a GREAT story. Congratulations. The proposal was just as beautiful and special as the ring. Please tell her that we send her our congrats! Post hand shots
