Thank you so much for your wishes. I suppose life is filled with all sorts of interesting transitions and this is certainly one of them.

Yes, I am planning to sell off all of my loose stones and very possibly several pieces of finished jewelry as well.

Sometimes we just have to swallow hard and do what needs to be done!

Hi Everyone!

Since so many people have reached out, I thought I might fill you all in on what's happening.

In essence, the recent news relates to my business (I’m a physician in private practice).

The primary local insurance company (read: Monopoly) abruptly started denying literally every claim submitted since April 1st with no prior warning.

A few days ago, they announced a change in billing codes that will dramatically reduce reimbursement, but they have yet to issue any instructions on how to use these new codes...so we're still stuck.

All of these actions are in direct violation of the state's local statutes, but it does not seem to be dissuading the "higher-ups" who are calling the shots. Our local field reps are going to bat for us, but they have relatively little power. I'm grateful that we have such tenacious advocates nevertheless.

The result of all this is that neither myself nor any of my colleagues have been paid at all for the month of April. This makes for a bit of a problem, of course, because medical practices don't just make money. They consume it quite rapidly.

As such, many of us have had to stop paying ourselves and start selling off personal assets to remain solvent, keep our doors open and continue to serve our patients.

There is no resolution in sight at this time, so it's becoming quite the scandal.

I'm currently scrambling to restructure my practice and my lifestyle as well as generate a bit of cash to help ease the transition.

I hope this is not TMI.

I just wanted to be transparent and extend my gratitude to each and every one of you for your wonderful kindness, compassion and support.

ALSO, it makes me very happy that the collection I have to sell off gets to "stay in the family" as it were!

Hopefully this debacle finds resolution very soon!

I believe everything I have listed except for the Mahenge Spinel has sold at this point

I do however, have a few more really sweet stones (and maybe some finished pieces as well) that I will post on LT as soon as it is working again!

@Dr_Diesel I'm sorry this is happening. You didn't mention it but not only are you not paying yourself and still seeing patients, I imagine you are supporting your employees as best you are able. Somehow insurance thankfully usually reverse course, but not until they have done a lot of damage and bankrupted people. I'm glad you have these treasures to help support you through this.
