so, as you may remember I am pretty new to the diamond world... I need your help again lol
I am trying to buy my first pair of studs (everyday), and I have been looking around, I was told I should not go below 1 ctw each, and that I should pick D/F color and vs1/2- but that means from 33-over 40k dollars in T&C and HW respectively, I’m trying to be realistic and I am willing to spend 15-20 maximum (I know that would mean below 1 Ctw.
So I went to Cartier and I fell in love with C de Cartier stud earrings (they look bigger because of the setting) .

And I got to look to these two pairs and they also have more options to go look at the store after I tell the sales associates the ones I am interested in. (I’m attaching a capture of his email)

I would love to have bigger diamonds, trying to buy second hand ones (but I really have no idea about who is reputable), I am trying to stay in the colorless side d-f. What do you think?
1. Should I consider T&C or Cartier when it comes to earrings?
2. Should I go for D, E or F color and think about a stone a little bit smaller/ bigger respectively?
3. What are your experiences about buying previously owned diamond earrings?

I personally would not pay these prices for stud earrings! No one except you will know they are Cartier or Tiffany, although I understand the brand name can mean a lot to some people.

Going down to G or even H for earrings with clarity VS2 or Si1 should be fine for earrings but if you want to stay at high colour/clarity here’s an example of what your budget will buy elsewhere,

i would not pay these prices for studs. especially for 1ctw. no one but you will know where they came from - i would invest in the actual diamonds. for FAR less, you could have a full carat in each ear in G, H, I colour and clarity is far less important for earrings than other items.

why don't you see what you can find at whiteflash or id jewelry? anecdotally, i have 1ctw J colour studs from id jewelry which people are always shocked are J, because they are extremely white facing, and i paid 2000 dollars canadian. so imagine what you could have for 6 or 7 thousand! you would save an enormous amount of money while having far larger diamonds.

Hi! I think you need to look at the diamonds. I have a Tiffany ring, a pair of HOF diamond studs and I was going to upgrade my studs to ACA or Brian Gavin. Long story short, I have been asking questions in another thread about which of the two has the sparkliest stones because my Tiffany, while not a super ideal is far more sparkly than my HOF which is a super ideal. After a bunch of replies from very helpful PSers, the conclusion is they I do not like the harsh black and white contrast of ACAs or similar cuts.

You should look at diamonds in real life. Also, if you are considering Tiffany or HW or Cartier, my honest opinion is that PS is not where you will get support. PSers love the online vendors and tend to think buying Tiffany and other brands are not worth it so you will be steered toward online vendors, mainly Whiteflash, Brian Gavin, etc. That’s fine if you are sure you want it but don’t buy thinking the math and cuts will give you a super sparkly diamond.

So.... I was going to fly down to Houston for a GTG in May and to get some ACA studs but after my revelation tonight, I will stay with Tiffany. Sigh. But at least I know what vendor I will stay with.

Just my thoughts. Good luck to you!

Miki you can still go to the gtg even if you don't want to buy an ACA. People on PS have stuff from all kinds of vendors. Including Tiffany, Cartier, HoF, etc.

Plus, I can't go, so wanted to hear lots of report/points of view from attendees =)2

Hi OP,

It's up to you really, if you'd prefer the big names for your studs, knowing that they might only deal with higher colours and clarities and you'd end up with smaller studs for the money. Or you can get over 1 carat each easily for your budget and go for size and quality if you're a bit flexible there. For example, if the cut quality is top notch, you could go for F G H colour if reliably graded and VS or even SI clarity if verified eye clean to your specifications and get much larger diamonds.

No way is wrong, it's totally up to you to decide what you'd rather have.:wavey:

Miki, the GTG's are for any PSer regardless of where they choose to buy from, you're just as welcome as anyone! Have fun in Houston!

Only you can know how important the brand names are in your decision.
Myself, I am a "pay for what I can see" kind of girl, and I would be motivated to purchase the kind of stones Pinto Bean references above. Those 1.8 F VS2 ACAs would be gorgeous.

For example, here is the visual difference between the a .9 and .6 stone. For MY dollars, I'd rather have the one on the left. Of course, your own preferences might lead you in another direction.
