So we were offered a free trip to Cancun June 28th. The thing is, neither my husband nor I have passports. According to the passport website (travel.gov or something like that), an expedited passport will most likely get to you in 3 weeks, door to door. I don't know whether to do that, or go to the Los Angeles Passport Agency with two weeks left until we leave, as they will only take appointments for people leaving within two weeks and need emergency visas or passports.

I guess I'm just worried that the "three weeks" will actually be longer than that, and I'll be out of luck. Any advice?

Even if you have them expedited there could still be a hold and you could get them late. The last I heard there have been many delays with getting them in time. I have gotten my passport twice within the two weeks before travel and it really wasn''t a hassle. If I were you I would do that and just make the appointment. This way you are guaranteed to get them that same day. I hope you have a great trip!

ditto, I rather be safe than sorry. Have fun on your trip!!!

Go to the passport office! It''ll actually be a lot easier I think...just make 100% SURE you have absolutely everything you need, in the correct format. I.e., no copies of birth certificates, etc. Otherwise they WILL turn you away.

Amber - I got my first passport a few weeks ago. I printed out the forms - filled them out - went to the Post Office in Beverly Hills (on Maple Drive) and paid the fees and had my picture taken. I did not pay to expedite (though the option was given). I wrote a check for $70 for the passport and a check for $40 for processing (I forget how much extra it would have been to expedite). Anyway - I did all of this on a Friday afternoon. The passport arrived in my mailbox the following Thursday. My birth certificate was mailed back about a week later.

Wow, thanks for all the advice! LAJennifer, I got my marriage cert in Beverly Hills, so I know how well things work there!

We will go to a passport agency, since I''m super anal and will not sleep until I know things are taken care of!
