Are you interested in beautiful antique stones? There are a ton of info on them and pictures to show you the color differences in them, they are charming and beautiful and not at all your average stone you'd find else where. I'll post a few that different rings/etc that caught my eye

I'd jump on this in a hearbeat! (and the J color won't be a problem with the antique faceting)

Make an offer!

You guys are AMAZING! I believe the first order of business is getting my money back from Robbin's Brothers  . I seriously can't thank you guys enough, you all are helping me create the perfect engagement ring. I felt like I entered my first day of kindergarten when I went to Robbin's Brothers and within a day I'm getting my PhD from all this information you guys have given me.

This one definitely jumped out at me, but when I ran it in the HCA calculator I got a 5.8, any particular reason for that?

Scratch that. It only has a "Good" cut grade. Admittedly, I didn't run the HCA or look at the cert.

If it were me, I would call Yekutiel at IDJ and tell him your budget. He has been able to find AMAZING diamonds for the money. You've definitely come to the right place!

Already e-mailed Yekutiel, trying to find some time to set-up a phone conference. Also, said he's emailing some options over to me on Monday so definitely excited about what he can come up with!

Re: First time buyer questions - First stop Robbin's Brother

I have another question, what are the differences between these 'antique' diamonds versus any other diamond?

Re: First time buyer questions - First stop Robbin's Brother

Antique diamonds are old cuts that were actually cut a long time ago (examples below)

- Old European Cut (OEC),
http://www.jewelsbygrace.com/loose-diamonds/1-ct-to-2-00/1-01ct-old-european-cut-diamond-gia-i-vs1#.WLnjDm8rIdU
- Old Mine Cut, and
http://www.jewelsbygrace.com/loose-diamonds/1-ct-to-2-00/1-08ct-old-mine-cut-diamond-gia-m-vs2#.WLnjOG8rIdU
- Antique Cushions,
http://www.jewelsbygrace.com/loose-diamonds/1-ct-to-2-00/1-27ct-oec-egl-k-vs1#.WLnjUG8rIdU
- Transitional Cut
http://www.jewelsbygrace.com/loose-diamonds/1-ct-to-2-00/1-35ct-transitional-cut-diamond-gia-i-vs2#.WLnja28rIdU

OR are newly cut but cut in a way to look like an old stone (the newer ones are usually cut with IDEAL light return).

- August Vintage Round

- August Vintage Cushion

- Canera European

(there are more types)

Reason: proportions that do not give good light performance.
DIamonds are tiny boxes of a zillion mirrors.
The mirrors are not positioned to return the light to your eyes ... almost certainly they were positioned to produce the heaviest diamond possible, not the best light performance.
Diamond cutting is a business and few customers even know about good light performance, but they ALL understand carat weight.
Follow the money.

Skip rounds that scored over 2.0 on the HCA.
Get an Idealscope image on rounds scoring under 2.0
Compare it to this reference chart and/or post IS image here.
