Hi all,
I''ve been reading this forum for a while and learned a lot (I think!), but this is my first post.
Can you help me and give me an opinion on what will be my first diamond purchase?
I am looking at getting a loose stone from an internet vendor for an engagement ring (and really want to get this just right!).

The stone I''m looking at is a round brilliant with a GIA cert:
Carat: 0.86
Color: E
Clarity: VS2
Cut Grade: Excellent
Table: 56%
Depth: 62.2%
Crown angle: 34.5
Pavillion angle: 40.8
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Flourescence: None
Cultet: Pointed
Girdle: Medium to slightly thick

Can anyone give me their thoughts on this stone?
I''m not necessarily looking for a perfectly graded stone, but I really want something that has a lot of sparkle to it and doesn''t look dull.
Also, when buying from the internet (from a reputable dealer), is there any additional information about the stone I should be requesting before proceeding?

Thanks for any help you can give me :-) !

Brassai, welcome to the forum.

The numbers look great - Tolkowsky ideal proportions. So if the girdle is not cheated, it shouldn''t be a dull stone.

I guess that''s all what can be said based on the average numbers. More info can only be given by using more advanced information like 3D Sarin scan, Ideal-Scope pictures, and other tools to evaluate the cut or consulting an expert/appraiser.

Welcome. You will not be guided wrong here.

It sounds very good on paper, good clarity and amazing color with an excellent cut grade. Do you have the dimensions? The hca score is really nice but 62.2% is a bit on the deep side.
We''d love to see pictures, maybe an idealscope (or similar) picture as well? Does the vendor have the stone on hand?

I was going to suggest the same. 62 is a bit deep but not too bad. We could tell a bit more with the dimensions if you can get them. But I agree the HCA score is good so I bet it will perform nicely. Good luck!

Thanks for your help.
The dimensions of the stone are:
6.08-6.11 x 3.79mm
Is there typically a maximum depth % over which I should be cautious?
I''ll have to contact the vendor to see if I can get pictures.

I''m no expert ( so experts feel free to chime in and correct me!), but it sounds like your diamond will face up to be about the same as a 60% depth .80 carat. But finding a 60% depth .80 carat looks rather challenging so why worry?
Personally I wouldn''t go past 63% depth. When you''re comparing diamonds and prices, just remember to check the dimensions as well since that''s what your eye sees.

Looking forward to seeing pics!
