I have tried to educate myself on diamonds etc but just feel like a complete noob. I am a student, graduate in a year and plan on proposing after I get my first job and am somewhat financially secure. I love my girlfriend more than I could possibly describe and would get her whatever she wanted if I could. I kind of just wanted to say hello to everyone here and ask for some advice on where to start shopping. I browse websites all the time looking for rings and you see the ones with the like 2 carat total weight, but I just have a feeling those are ripoffs. I would like to get her a very nice ring with a nice diamond in the middle. I want the center stone to be at least 1 carat round. Gosh I just confused myself, sorry for sounding like such a rookie!

Hi rmpage and welcome to you!!

We are here to help, when you are ready to buy if you would like to give us an idea of your budget for the diamond we can make some suggestions for you if you like. What sort of setting are you looking for, a Tiffany style solitaire or one with small diamonds?

No need to apologize for sounding like a rookie, we all had to start somewhere! Have fun and explore the site and if you have any questions or need help navigating your way around, just ask.

This is a great place to start, The Pricescope Tutorial, and work your way through the topics on the left. We have a dedicated team here of consumer posters and some experts who are glad to help you so just ask when you have questions on anything diamond related and we will be ready to assist you.

Thanks for the link to the tutorial, I am sure I will be reading it quite a few times to really get a feel for what I am looking for. I have been an ebayer for the longest time, buying everything from clothes to televisions, but I never thought about diamonds. Is it a reputable place to buy from if you find the right seller? Like to my untrained eye, this doesnt look like a terrible deal.

Is there something I am missing? I just want to be able to spot a good deal from a bad one on ebay as well. Odds are i will never buy one on ebay just because when I eventually buy, I would most likely want to see it in person. But just gain experience in knowing a good deal from a bad one, whats the deal with that one above?

You are most welcome!

Personally I wouldn't buy a diamond from Ebay. The diamond in question also has an EGL grading report, if you read the link in the tutorial I posted above titled Grading Reports, that explains how the grading labs rank. EGL are considered to grade leniently in some cases compared to GIA and AGS.

If you don't mind me asking, roughly whereabouts are you located? We might be able to offer some suggestions if you are near one of the Pricescope vendors that also have brick and mortar stores, or you might be able to see some diamonds in person if you had a seller in your area as you say you would prefer to see the diamond prior to purchase.

I live in Dallas, Texas :)

Ok!

You could contact John Pollard at www.craftedbyinfinity.com John is located in DFW if that is manageable.

Alternatively, if you could get to Houston, you could make an appointment with;

www.briangavindiamonds.com or

www.whiteflash.com
You live in the diamond mecca man! Try and go to these places in person, it is my dream to see a bunch of diamonds by these companies in person, but alas, it shall never be
