Fixed vs sliding pendant

I just left my jeweler a couple of hours ago and settled on a thin white gold bezel pendant setting. I decided to get a sliding one because the 2 they had for me to try on were fixed bezels on the chain and it kept getting stuck sideways which would drive me crazy. Now I'm questioning all of my choices, fixed vs sliding and even whether I should have just gotten a 3-4 prong setting instead of the bezel. My diamond is .78cts for reference. I am so indecisive.

I'm a fan of bezel settings. I just feel they are simple, but elegant, and the bezel adds to the presentation of the stone.

Just a guess based on my own bezel necklace, which is fixed.
How thick is your bezel setting going to be? I THINK that may effect how the diamond will sit on your neck.

My bezel is a pretty thick one (made in 1994, gold prices were different) So, it's fairly heavy, and always sits right, even though it's a fixed bezel.

That 1st picture makes it look huge, I know, it's really just about a carat. But it's a good view of how it's attached.

Here is a better indication of the size of it. 629226

My preference is generally for sliding pendants, since you can use the chain for other pendants too.

I personally prefer prong settings as I like to minimize the look of metal and focus on the diamond, but I think bezels look lovely as well!

It is going to be a really thin bezel. I wish I’d taken a picture of the 2 I tried on. Both had much smaller diamonds than mine in them so it was kind of hard to tell exactly how it will look but I loved how thin the bezel was.

either way the more weight and the further from the center of gravity (e.g. larger) the better they work.

Big no to fixed, it will travel up the neck all day long. I had my 1ct set in a sliding thin bezel and did not like it. The setting was too light and the bezel did not lay right and traveled. The setting wasn't deep enough and the culet poked. I switched out to a four prong bezel. The setting is deep enough so there is weight, no traveling, and the bezel gives the illusion of a larger diamond.

Do you happen to have a picture?

@NonieMarie I’m confused... did you have a fixed or a slider? Thanks!

I have a 1 carat fixed pendant set in platinum. I feel that the weight of the metal keeps it in place.

Is yours prong set or bezel? If prongs, how many? Thank you!

Thank you everyone. I tried on a prong set, martini style with a piece that holds the pendant. It looked pretty traditional and beautiful but I felt like bezel set was a little more casual looking and I want this to be an everyday necklace. That is why I chose the bezel. I guess if I hate it, I can have it reset.

Same. Mine is bezel fixed setting and it’s fine

Here are pics of mine. I wear it 24/7. If you need a pic with chain, let me know.20200616_164053.jpg20200616_163950.jpg20200616_164015.jpg

Mine pendant is tension set not bezel, but it slides.

Pendants are so hard for me to get a good picture of but here it is! I love it and it is perfect for what I wanted! It flips more than my prong set pendant but not bad enough to bother me so far!

It's beautiful. Glad you found a setting that works for you.
