How much does it cost to hire pros usually? Ballpark range?
Call around.

I would imagine it depends on your locale.

''Every day you sit and try to figure out what to do, those suckers are breeding...FAST.''

This is totally my thought. I am surprised you posted last nite and have not done anything really yet to try to combat the problem as of today other than some powder, you need WAY more than that. I was so disgusted at finding 6 fleas that I was like IMMEDIATELY researching and looking into what we needed to do and then we jumped on it. I didn''t want to give them any extra time, esp when I read how fast they breed and HATCH. So you really need to get going with something, every minute counts IMO. Good luck!!
No kidding Mara. At the first bite, I went out and bombed. Then afterwards I saw another one and realized the bombs did no good for us. I stayed up researching flea stuff until 2 am and the next morning ran out as soon as Kmart opened and boraxed the house to death. I just can''t sleep knowing that one flea could turn into dozens in an extremely short period of time. It seems exponential.

Well, I found out about the fleas at about 4pm yesterday. I bought more frontline, bought the spray...came here, sprayed, frontlined, flea powdered,(which I got at the grocery store.)bathed my kitten... Then at 11:30pm is when I posted this topic. Since then, I've gone to bed...woke up...spent the day at my summer class. I have just now gotten home. When boyfriend gets back we'll head to home depot.

I'm not just twiddling my thumbs, I promise!

"What is Diatomaceous Earth?

It is a non-toxic, safe substance made up from crushed fossils of freshwater organisms and marine life. Crushed to a fine powder and observed through a microscope, the particles resemble bits of broken glass. Deadly to any insect and completely harmless to animals, fish, fowl or food. Most insects have a waxy outer shell covering their bodies, INSECT STOP scratches through this shell causing the insect to dehydrate leading to eventual death."

Yay! Have fun at home depot! The DE should do the trick, because it works just like the borax to kill them!

Die Fleas, DIE!

Just came back from my childrens annual. My TV star vet was telling me just this morning he had too "Knuckleheads" call in complaining about their animal having seizures. First question to them was what is the source you bought your flea/tick product from?

Answer: Discount store/warehouse

That was the problem. I can''t spell the word PYrethea? Is the culprit in off brands. He told me as he told them ONLY what you can get at Vet/pet food supply. Example. frontline, advantage...etc. He said Frontline would be best in your case because you get 2 months of flea protection in each application.

So I am sorry I recommended Advantage. For my situation with dogs, it is best for me...but not in this case.

Good luck.

TG- one bombing worked for us and like I mentioned before we were heavily infested.
Wow, that seems lucky to me...or maybe we were very unlucky! LOL.

Another remedy I read was just to get hardwood floors. Harder for them to survive!

Like Gypsy said, I treated my cat at the vet (we only had one there) at the SAME TIME. DH no longer let the stray in and we were fine. We had wall to wall carpet in our old house. You need to make sure to wash all linens and clothes that may of come into contact and sweep the carpet daily (empty it right after OUTSIDE). Maybe b/c our cat is indoor so as soon as we got rid of the problem (the stray who turned out of be our neighbor's) and got everything treated I have never seen a flea since.

ETA: I do not remember the cost but I would have paid X10. They use special stuff that is nontoxic since we had a pet. I called as soon as we realized what they were.
