Flower Cluster Earrings?

I am obsessed with flower clusters, and really want something flowery to wear to a friend's wedding in 3 months. I figured a pair of cluster earrings are probably more affordable than a pendant or a ring, so I will start with them. I like these two variations of flower clusters:

The big difference between these two styles, A and B, is in the placement of the prongs, I think. Which style do you like more, and why? And which aspect do you not like about either or both of them?

I originally thought about putting 7 sparkly colorless diamonds in the cluster (like in B) so I wouldn't have to think about what color combo to put in. However, now I think diamonds might be safe but could be boring too. I think I could really use some help in the color combo department.. what gemstone and metal look amazing together? For metals, I like 18K white gold and 18K/14K rose gold. For gemstones, yellow, orange, brown, and yellow-ish green are out because warm colors don't look good on me. I like aqua blue, emerald green, purple, pink, ruby red, and light-medium blue. And I don't mind throwing some diamonds to go with the gemstones.

To make things more complicated, I don't know if I should do studs or dangles (with simple french wires). My head doesn't like to be poked by the stud posts, but I do like to have the earrings stay close to my earlobes, so they don't accidentally get caught in the car door like my hair or my coat  .. [On second thought, perhaps the studs are slightly better because the under gallery on the stock setting may be fairly plain unless customized ??] Any suggestions?

ETA:
I forgot to mention size.. As a reference, I tried on CZ studs before, and the 6.5mm one looked a tad too big on me. So I am thinking the clusters probably shouldn't be much bigger than that.

I prefer style A. I like the smooth outline better than the pointed one in style B. It seems gentler and more elegant.

As for stones, I think coloured stones with a diamond center is just perfect. All diamond clusters, to me, tend to blend together and the flower design isn't as clear, specially in a piece that will be seen from something of a distance.

I'm not good with subtleties like that, but I am struck by style B.

Interestingly, my great-grandmother's wedding ring, which is from 1910, is also a flower cluster of diamonds. It's over 100 years old, and it looks completely contemporary. So, kudos on choosing a Truly classic style. Her diamonds are set in very shallow bezels.

Wow, iLander, that's very impressive! Do you happen to know who made it, and was it die-struck?

I am intrigued by the die-striking method used by some US jeweler manufacturers like Jabel and Van Craeynest. I am actually thinking about getting the flower clusters from Jabel, as they have already been making them for many years. Not sure how much they cost, but if it turns out too expensive, I could still get them from WhiteFlash, as DandiAndi suggested.

Yeah, I was afraid that the diamonds might look like a big blur from distance. However, I am a bit color challenged, and wearing a pair of unusual-colored glasses (deep blue-ish green?) doesn't help. I wonder if I should try using gemstones in the green and/or blue family. Or would pink or purple or lavender look just fine?

Red is the complimentary colour to green, so a pink or magenta may just pop out near your glasses. You can also go for the adjacent colour, a blue or a green, for a harmonious, elegant feel.

Have you thought about what colour dress you will be wearing?

Is it obvious I love colour theory? Here is an interesting article: http://www.colormatters.com/color-and-design/basic-color-theory

I am thinking of wearing one of the only two ( :o ) formal dresses I have -- one is medium-blue, and the other is burgundy. I might get a new dress if I see one that's pretty and appropriate.

Thank you for the color suggestion and the color theory link! I actually have started to pay attention to colors since 2005, and obviously I haven't improved much since then!

I like a flower cluster in both all diamond, and with gemstones. My great grandmother had an all diamond flower cluster that my mom has now and it is still stunning. I have a ruby flower cluster pendant with diamond center, love it. Either way, in my opinion. That being said, are you interested in a double sided sapphire flower cluster necklace?

Same here, LD. In fact, I've posted that site (colormatters) here before. How cool, that you know about that. (Sometimes/too often I think I'm the only one who thinks about certain things, as no one else I know really goes in my directions. Eh, I guess great minds/interesting thinkers gather at PS.) ;))

Flower clusters are great. Too bad you don't see them as much for sale as we used to, though. I've had my eye out, for a Long time, for some with those dark blue Thai sapphires, actually.

Can't advise about colour since I'll wear any coloured gemstone without consideration of what I am wearing for the day, but I do like style B. The flower design is more apparent and also reminds me of my late grandmother's earrings - very antique and elegant.

The ring I currently wear as my e-ring is a flower cluster in platinum. I LOVE it. Way more than I thought I would! Mine is all diamond and more like style A. If I were going for a more obvious flower I'd choose style B. That said though - I love them both.
