I recently purchased a small red/orangeish/pinkish spinel and I am debating whether to keep it or return it. I used a black light on it and it is fluorescent--is this pretty normal for all spinel of this color range? The stone is a 6.4 by 6.4 by 4.1 trillion shape, and one of the reasons i might return it is I just don't know how I would set it, and I'd rather put my money into stones I can wear. Here is the ebay listing if that helps:

Some pink/red spinels react to ultraviolet light and some don't, so that's normal.

So you're the one who got it! LOL

The color to me is KAPOW!

If you don't love it and don't see a reason to keep it loose, by all means return it! You're right you can put that money towards something you'll wear and love. Just my .02

I do actually really like it, it makes me smile when I see it. I am new to gem collecting and was just doubting my ability to pick a decent stone. I just overdid a few ebay auctions in my excitement to get my hands on some gems I have been reading about on pricescope and afterwards I was feeling some buyers guilt!

I may have answered my own question about keeping it ;))

I think you got a nice stone especially for that price. The color looks really good, the only thing that might bother me is the small crown but if the color is right it's easy to overlook. :appl:
