For those who got a semi-eternity band... did you regret it due to spinning?

Do you wish you had just gotten a full eternity band?

I am really paranoid about getting a full eternity since it can''t so easily be resized. I don''t ever really gain or lose weight, but who knows, pregnancy in the future, passing it on to my daughter or something, etc. Yes, I am thinking very far ahead!

But I also don''t want any metal to show. My e-ring is accurately sized at a size 4 but even it has some significant spin, probably just due to the setting.

I realize this is kind of a silly question. You can always just turn your ring back around. But we all have those little petty things that drive us batty, and I know I''m not the only one here bothered by spinning rings!

So did any of you wish you had just gotten the full eternity band rather than a semi?

You know, I have lots of bands, some that are full eternity, and some that are half, and I honestly like them both. I do like the look of stacking full eternity bands together better, but sometimes I mix the stack up with half eternities also. I don''t really have large knuckles though, so my rings don''t really spin around all that much. For someone whose rings spin a lot or are really rough on their jewelry, a half eternity is the more practical way to go, I think. I''ve chipped three stones on my 2.6ctw full eternity already, so I''m not really wearing that one much anymore.

I think just about everyone is going to go through a ring size change throughout their lives, so I don''t know how practical a full eternity is. Luckily, my fingers haven''t changed size in years....

Sorry I can''t be more help.

freefly, that was very helpful. Thank you!

I only have a half eternity, and yes, it spins. I wish I had got at least a 3/4, but overall it''s not a big deal. I definitely prefer keeping some wiggle room to size up and down.

I have a 3/4 eternity and I wish it was a full eternity. My ring does spin so it''s still at risk of being damaged on the palm side. And in 30 years my ring sized only increased by 1/2 a size. What I really would like is an full eternity band with only a tiny little space for sizing instead of a half inch of plain metal.

I have and love a full eternity. I figure if it ever does get too tight then I''ll have it made into two half diamond bands, so I enjoy it as it is now and not worry about the future. I did check with family members and most of them had their fingers shrink as they got older, not go up in size.

I got a half eternity and regret it. I thought it would be more comfortable, more practical and more economical--and it is all those things--but the spinning drives me nuts. And it just doesn't look as nice aestheically. I dislike that it looks different on one side than the other. I am hoping to get a chunkier full eternity down the road at some point as a stand-alone ring.

I have had half, 3/4 and full, and honestly although I prefer the look of the full eternity, the main issue I have is the durability and having to be aware of what I do with my hands so that drives me nuts too, But the other part of me is the half drives me nuts also as it spins. However, I like them all for different reasons. So if you can have one of each who knows maybe you soon find out you prefer one over another

that probably doesn''t help. I do love the scattered/ burnished set, bezel, and channel set in full eternity though as I worry less on those rings.

The truth of it is, I think every lady is different. Some womens'' fingers don''t swell at all and for them, full eternities are fine. My hands swell with use (because of FM) and from foods and from sleep. I have one eternity band and I''ll always have just one because they can''t be sized. I had one 3/4 eternity and it drove me nuts that the little sizing bar always drifted to the top of my finger and I hated that, so I just sold that ring on eBay. What I''m going to have made when I do my reset, is stones that just pass the point where my fingers meet. I already have bands like that and they don''t spin on me for some reason and they can always be resized.

I think everyone''s preferences will be different for different reasons and it''s up to you to figure out what''s best for you.

I don''t know what kind of eternity ring you''re looking for, but I remember seeing snlee''s BevK eternity ring - instead of a diamond in one of the spaces, it was just metal, for sizing. That way, you don''t have a huge stretch of metal, just a tiny bit, and it''s barely noticeable. I don''t see why this couldn''t be converted somehow to a shared prong style, if that''s what you''d prefer. Here''s the link to snlee''s ring.

I was going to direct you to my Tessa Ring which is similar to Snlee''s but I have a little bar. The jeweler said I could size it up 2/down 2. It is a great compromise and I don''t regret it at all!

I have a full eternity set made by Quest, who promised to always "resize" it (remake them) when I needed. They costed a bit more to have made there than elsewhere, but the ability to resize was important to me.

I have a sapphire 1/2 eternity, and I love it. If we had to do it over again, maybe I would have gone with a 3/4th if possible, but not a full. It just doesn''t appeal to me.

Yes, Quest resizes free for life, no exceptions! THAT may be your best choice.

As an "aside", the main reason I changed settings once was because my shared prong setting was half-eternity and the spinning drove me crazy. (Apparently I didn''t have far to go!

I have a 9/10 eternity- that is, it has a couple mm space for sizing. Invariably that teensy bar spins to the top of my finger, it''s very irritating. I''d much rather get a full eternity and risk not being able to size it if I needed to. It isn''t worth the hassle of having to constantly re-arrange your ring every day all day.

My wedding band is a 3/4 eternity and although it does spin sometimes, it doesn''t really bother me to just turn it back around. My rings fit really well and aren''t very loose so I only find it in the wrong direction sometimes. I thought the spinning would bug me a lot, but it doesn''t. But I do wish I could''ve gotten a full eternity just because I love the look and that''s what I wanted from the beginning, but I couldn''t find what I wanted in a full eternity in the price I wanted. I''m very happy with my ring though!

i have a 1/2 eternity and i''m happy i went that direction. i choose to do so for the reasons you listed - needing it to be resized in the future. hopefully i''ll never have to, but i''m happy i have the option.

No never, I had the ring made into a true half, almost 3/4 eternity, so it looks as if it is all the way around from the top. it doesnt spin much and I never have to worry about banging my diamonds and prongs on the table top, counter, etc.

I love it.

I have a 1/2 and it bothers me that it spins.

So my next few eternity bands were all full eternity and I love them.

I do worry about my finger size changing over the years and not being able to wear them.

Yes I do regret not going full eternity.

I have a 3/4 eternity e-ring and wedding band. I had both of them custom made by WF and did the 3/4 because I''m not that easy on my hands and I''m not the type of person to be careful with/baby jewelry. The 3/4 is perfect for me because just the underside of my finger doesn''t have stones. My e-ring never spins because of how it''s made (the side stones fit across the top of my finger exactly) and my wedding band very rarely spins. The price difference was very minimal with both the e-ring and the wedding band. I don''t think there''d be much of a difference in price unless you were going with larger stones for the band.

I have a half-eternity channel-set band and a full-eternity wedding band, and I much prefer the latter. The half-eternity seems to always be turned around the wrong way, so it constantly looks like just a plain band.

I had a semi-eternity band that went along with my shared prong ering. Both rings seemed to always be turned the wrong way, so I changed my band to a full eternity. I had never gained or lost weight in my fingers, so I didn''t think twice about getting the full eternity. I recently lost a bunch of weight, and my rings are huge! I don''t know my new ring size, but it''s enough smaller that I can''t wear my ering and wband. I have taken them to 3 jewelers, all of whom have told me they can''t be resized. When I figure out what I want, I''m going to have my ering reset and have my semi-eternity band resized. I have had my full eternity band for less than 2 years, so I''m really kicking myself for going that direction!

I''ve had a channel set half-eternity for years. I''ve had it resized once after I had kids, because my ring size increased. It rarely spins, and I still like it just fine.

I haven''t read all the responses, but I just wanted to quickly add my perspective. One of my wedding bands was a half eternity and it would constantly rotate and it bugged me to no end. I had my jeweler modify it to a full eternity. If your band has simple channel/bead set diamonds, it''s not too difficult to resize it in the future if need be. Even my Bev K alternating stone band can be resized!

I have a shared prong half eternity. I went with half to keep the price down, but I would''ve gone with 3/4 if budget had been unlimited (for easy resizing).

I don''t loathe the spinning, but I notice when I wear it that I do keep checking it and straightening it, so a full eternity would eliminate that distraction.

I have 1/2 eternity wedding ring and I love it. Sure, I love the look of an eternity ring, but 1/2 eternity is just so practical and comfortable. I have been wearing it for more than 5 years now and of course it spins a little, but very rarely to the point that the diamonds are all the way on the palmar side. Plus I think I would be afraid wearing an eternity on a daily basis as not to damage the diamonds (and it may scratch patients too if its not channel-set).

I got a half eternity for a few reasons, money, resizing ability, and my e-ring is half eternity as well. I also wanted my ring engraved and it would have been nearly impossible with a full eternity band. It spun a lot when I got it, even at the right size because my knuckles were larger than my finger. I made the choice to solder my wband to my ering and am SO happy about it. I know it''s not for everyone, but now nothing shifts, ever, and even my jeweler said he was happy I chose to do it, because it makes the two rings stronger than they would be alone. I can always choose to reverse the process if I want, but not having spinning rings is incentive enough for me to keep it as is. Bonus, it didn''t mess up the engraving in my wedding band.

I have a 3/4 and I love it. I check and fiddle with my rings often enough that when it spins I just right it and move on.

I have both a half and full eternity, and have had problems with both. That said, I still prefer the look of a full eternity.

For my wedding band I really wanted an asscher channel-set eternity. However, because all you could see was diamonds from the top of the band, I thought it was silly to spend money on diamonds that you wouldn''t see on the back of the ring. Well, my wedding band spins all the time, and it bothered me so much that I ended up getting a separate eternity ring to wear.

So, I got a round shared-prong eternity which is gorgeous, but a stone fell out less than 3 months after I got it from light daily wear (I never wear it around the house - only when I go out). So, as beautiful as that ring is, I feel like I have to baby it.

Still, though, I now prefer my eternity band. In a couple of years if I have some extra cash, I may have my asscher band turned into an eternity as well.
