We have sold Yehuda for some years and Oved before that. Always wondered how durable the glass filling was. Seems like after we set the stones and rhodium plate the head, or mounting, the filler is lightly etched. I know this can definitely happen to glass filled ruby. We knew that using a weak acid pickle after soldering would damage the filler...now we have been told that we should "mask-off" the diamonds before rhodium plating. Funny, when I emailed Yehuda some months back I was told it wouldn't harm the filler. Difficult to mask off a diamond when it is set, and when you can't tell where the hidden fractures are. To add insult to injury we were just informed that any jewelry cleaner that contains ammonia will damage the filler. Turns our that this warning is on their website, but not in your face, you have to look for it. So after 35 years of using a weak ammonia and light detergent-water based solution in the ultrasonic we are told this is too harsh for the glass filler. I was led to believe only strong acids, strong bases and direct heat will affect the filler. This is apparently not true. Bench men beware.
