Low stakes very cheap purchase from Etsy. Described as a sphene. Figured it would be synthetic; would have been fine with that.

Received a pink ”gem.” It has no fire, a little scintillation, and some weird haze. Looks purple when backlit from a window. Has a pretty cut; we will see if my husband can stab a hole — I have some pretty wire and no pink pendants so why not.

Photos in various lighting + next to natural sphene (double refraction) and lab diamond (single refraction in pink). Feel free to check the poll or make a comment.

Look how pretty it is in the sun.

So moody in various lighting.

Never buy an uncertified gem. That way you at least get some fire from the hologram.

Did you see the seller’s other listings for one that looks like what you got?

I chose the last option just for laughs but honestly it can be anything!

Antique purple diamond, who could possibly forget that :lol-2:

Definitely! It must be!

Yeah, I will have to go have a look-see…

Update: My husband tried to drill through it with no luck. Hopefully I didn’t ruin a perfectly good cheap lab tourmaline or something.
