I was just googling "seahorse jewelry" and Cross Jewelers in Maine came up. So I googled them too, and it seems they're quite well-known. Anyway, I couldn't believe it when I saw that if you buy your engagement ring at Cross and it rains on your wedding day, you get a refund on your engagement ring, up to $5k!

I read the terms and conditions, and it's all very well-organized and clearly laid out.

They seem on the expensive side in the first place, though. Maybe that's how they can afford the promotion!

Haha, gives a whole new meaning to the thought that rain on your wedding day is good luck. It seems as if in this case it is!

I remember my dad told me about this, I think it was on the news.

I would have never won. The weather is always nice where I am. My family jokes they should rent me out to parties just to keep the weather away. I can remember the last few weddings I went to it was suppose to rain but managed to miss us. On my wedding in November it was like 60 degrees (in Michigan) and the next day there was a very bad wind storm.
The reason this is annoying is I actually quite love inclement weather, so i dont want it to avoid me. I wanted it to rain so good in my wedding day,but sadly, perfect day for a wedding. Haha

The promotion is actually quite generous. It doesn't matter where you get married - it has to rain (1 inch) or snow (3 inches) in Maine. And considering the kind of winters they have in Maine, as long as you get married in the winter, it wouldn't be hard to pick a snow day. You don't even have to have visited Cross Jewelers - you can get your ring online and it's still valid. You don't need to be a Maine resident, either.

You could get married Dec-March somewhere warm, like Florida or Arizona, and as long as there was rain or snow in Maine you'd get your ring refund. I mean, especially for younger couples starting out, it's a great idea. Ring costs are hard on young people.

If a young couple got their ring refund, I suspect Cross would remain their jeweler for their whole married life. Perhaps Cross is not silly!

This is the first year I've heard of Cross doing this. Springer's, which has a store right next to Cross in Portland ME, used to have a Let it Snow deal every year from the day after Thanksgiving until mid-December. If it snowed at least 6 inches at their Portsmouth NH location on Christmas Day, whatever you bought at any Springer's during those qualifying dates was free. They had insurance to cover it. I'm not sure why they're not doing it this year - I don't recall them ever having had to pay out.

The precipitation is measured at the airport in Portland - a coastal town. They don't get the kind of snow that you'd see in northern Maine.

Aha - they're not silly then!

But New York is coastal and it gets a lot of snow. Same with Boston, D.C etc.

About Springer's never having had to pay out, I think the East Coast tends to get its heaviest snowfalls Jan/Feb/March. They're not silly to run it Thanksgiving to Christmas!

If I did that I think I'd get married in Seattle, or have a destination wedding on the "rainy side" of one of the islands of Hawaii :Up_to_something:

It doesn't matter what the weather is at your destination. It has to rain or snow in Maine, regardless of where you're getting married!

Comical extract from their website:

"...if the heavens opened up during your wedding in Montana while the skies were clear and the sun was shining in Maine there would be no prize. So scheming to get married in a tropical rainforest during monsoon season will unfortunately not increase your chances of winning, but nice try."

   I love the way they've written that!

Ah well, I'm sure others would have thought of that as well.
