I don't post photos as often as I should, so I am going to try to remedy that.

I'm a "friend" of Jim's (and some other cutters) on that site where people are "friends" (LOL), so I got intrigued when he advertised that he had some rough from Kenya that should yield a stone similar to the one in his article https://www.pricescope.com/journal/cushion-cutting-step-step because I really liked that stone in his thread. I contacted him and the process began!

The garnet is 10.5 x 8.5mm and is 4.35 carats and more the color of a cranberry than a raspberry (like many rhodolites I've seen). My apologies to Jim for my lousy photos, but I think you'll get the idea. It more the color of the pavillion up photo IRL.

Photo of the rough and Jim's photo with a flash to show faceting. And BTW, Jim is a heck of a nice guy!

No apologies needed. Color is hard to get in pictures. It amazes me how well you ladies can take pictures of gems. Sometimes I think I should just have PS people do my photos because the skills are better than mine!

Very nice! I can only say that when you set it, be cognizant it may change colors on you. So you'd probably want to consider a nice open prong setting instead of a bezel. I put mine in a halo setting ...what the heck I do that for??? lol

Jim I have an 8gb card in my camera that has I can fill up with a few photo sessions for gems. Its just a lot of practice and retakes (ok get a PS'er to do it for you...lol)

Once again Jim did a fantastic job. I really enjoy how he sends or shows you the rough pics beforehand or after. Makes the stone seem more personal.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I greatly appreciate it. It is always nice to see the support this community gives to us faceters.

I wasn't near as lucky with this one as the sapphire in the sun, but it does show some of the gorgeous cranberry color.
