Gem Silica/Bacan eye-candy

@lilmosun can I ask where you got your gem silica? Not sure if there's a thread.

I bought it from Christiane Morin. I looked up the details - 6.95 carats (12.25x11.20x6.5). I only paid $278 ($40/carat) so assume there are nicer ones out there. Mine is from Arizona and more a Caribbean green-blue than pure pool blue. Indoors, the color looks more even and saturated but never opaque like I've seen some others look (but mine is set high so light always comes through...perhaps why some set in a solid metal back- to reflect the light?). Admittedly, while beautiful color, it's not a personal favorite because of the polished but waxy-like luster. That being said, I liked it enough to set it :)

The issue of the texture of the stone is an interesting topic. I can imagine this quality of the stone may somewhat polarize opinions, such as loving it or not. The waxiness of it is a part of what I like about it, in part because it has a unique, softness to it. Kinda reminds me of highly translucent, fine textured hetian nephrite jade, but with that color, which makes it soft but electric. Very interesting combination.

I think this would be THE perfect ring and earrings for me to wear on a dive holiday. They also don't look too bling to encourage theft.

Makes for a good cheery travel ring too.

Dammit, why can't I have all the gem silica?????

Indonesian seller? Negotiate!

@Burmesedaze I'd definitely be negotiating any/all prices!!! It's an odd market.....everything sells really quickly, no one has a website, and transactions are done via Whatsapp and DM. Not to mention the language barrier! Gotta move fast and be sure before buying. But fun to dip my toes in bc of all the eye candy!

Berapa ini?? Cheap cheap tolong? Terimah kasih! Haha

There are a lot of rich Indons :)

Which part of Indonesia are they in?

Oh...are you going to get this one? I am loving the color! The more light that comes through, the better the glow indoors and sometimes I wish mine weren't so deep.

True and I hope I didn't discourage anyone. Admittedly, I prefer my lighter jade pieces to my deeper emerald-green colored (more highly valued) ones for the same reason. Crazy :)
