I looked into GemSafe and would’ve probably gotten it if not for the fact that GemExtensive ended up being a bit cheaper after discounts.
I was also concerned about this replacement issue because my center stone is antique, which means the GIA report doesn’t say much and I didn’t want to get a worse stone that technically has similar GIA attributes as a replacement, so I emailed back and forth a lot with Stephanie to clarify.
As I understand, they work with a jeweler you select, instead of just finding/making you a replacement, so if you’re happy with and trust the jeweler, you should be okay. The insurer then approves the replacement. The insurance contract has language about the replacement being “similar enough”, and I asked if a dispute over this has ever come up. Stephanie said in the almost 2 years she’s worked on the program, there has never been an issue or dispute about the replacement or amount paid out.
Glad to be of service!
I don’t know for sure, but I just got it a couple of weeks ago so they’re probably still offering them.
Having a home safe gives you 10% off, and having central station fire and police alarms give you another 15% (not sure how it breaks down if you only have one). I don’t actually have a central station police alarm but live in a building with 24-hr staff and security monitoring, so they gave me the full discount anyways.
GemExtensive would’ve been more expensive for me too without these. GemSafe doesn’t offer discounts, so it’ll depend on which discounts you can use![]()
