GIA Diamond with No Cut Grade- Should I Pass On This Stone?

I'm considering a preloved loose stone that I found on DB to do a bump of an upgrade ( From my 1.21 RB I color) for my 10 year anniversary/potential birthday gift to me. My birthday is on the 30th... It is GIA certed but doesn't have a cut grade. I did a little research online and found out stones graded before 2005 didn't get a cut grade but you can send the stone to the GIA to have it reevaluated. The seller said that the stone was cut by a local master cutter in her area. I checked the price against other stones on PS and Blue Nile and found one new that is priced a bit lower than what she is asking for hers so I replied with that.

Here all the info I do know about the stone
Measurements: 7.46 - 7.50 x 4.58 mm
Carat Weight: 1.53 carat
Color Grade: H
Clarity Grade: SI2

Depth: 61.2%
Table: 58%
Girdle: Thin to Medium, Faceted
Culet: None

Polish: Good
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: None

My question to you PS experts is it too much of a gamble to pursue this stone? Seller is asking $8500 or BO. I don't have enough into to use the HCA and I do know cut is very important but should knowing it was cut by a master cutter be reassuring? If it's worth pursuing, what is a reasonable BO price considering the unknown of the cut and it's preloved?

Too risky at any price, really. I'd be afraid of the SI2 as well. Not to mention you have no idea if the stone is in original condition. It could be a decent deal IF it was Excellent cut, but you have no way of knowing without a recent lab report. They need to send it in and have a new report done.

There are a bunch of stones on BN, in the ideal cut range, for that price (or less). Since you're looking to buy a round brilliant stone, it would make sense to go with pre-loved if you're getting a discount. You're not getting that, so I would pass on the stone and either buy new or wait for another pre-loved that is at a discounted price and has a current report.

MC- Thanks for your reply. I'll pass on it.

DiamondSeeker- I was hoping you'd reply. Thanks for saying it will be a risk no matter the price. After sending the seller a message with a much lower asking price, I started to get a bad feeling about it even with a lower price. This am I posted to get reassurance that it is too risky not knowing the cut and it being an SI2. I will hold off on this stone. Esp now that I just went to my local jeweler to break down an old ring I wasn't wearing into a pendant and earrings for my birthday. Recycling :). I'm not in a rush so I'll just keep looking and should take time to try on some stones in the 1.5-1.8 range.

I think you made a wise decision. I looked up the stone and wasn't impressed with the amount of information provided in the listing and the pictures were not good, either. If it was something inexpensive that could easily be resold, I might take a chance, but not when we are talking thousands of dollars. Good luck and watch the pre-loved forum here, too!
