Girls : ) RANDOM QUESTION!

If you have tattoos, did you show them or cover them up on your wedding day (or what do you plan to do?)

I just started thinking about it recently... I love my tattoos, but am wondering what I should do for the big day... I have a piece right below the nape of my neck, and a band around my upper arm. It would take a REALLY conservative dress to cover them with fabric... and I''m really not liking that idea! Any other ways to temporarily hide them? I''m thinking I''ll just go with whatever dress I like and show them, but want to see what other options might be out there : )

Just figured I''d see what other people did - their suggestions, regrets, etc...

Aussie

I know they make make-up (thick foundation) that is suppose to cover the tattoos. I forgot what it is called but you can do a search. I have one on the middle of my upper back so I wore my hair down. Covered up just fine. I know SDL did the same thing. It would cover the one on your neck.

Tacori,

Thanks for the advice -- any idea if this sort of thing would rub off and damage a wedding dress? I''m looking on google not coming up with much yet... My hair is not long enough to cover my tattoo at this point, but maybe I could grow it out... not sure about that! I''ve got plenty of time to figure it out though!

Aussie

How long is your hair? I know SDL (San Diego Lady) took certain pills to help grow her hair out. I will try to search. I know they talk about it on the knot a lot too (or did when I was wedding planning). I would buy some and try it out in advance so you know how it is going to work. I would hate for it to ruin your dress!

Goodness... guess I wasn''t clear -- I have PLENTY of time to grow my hair out the ''normal'' way if I wanted to - just not sure I want it long. My wedding won''t be until June of 2008 probably, so that''s not the issue : )

I just was wearing a tank top today when I went with my cousin to shop for her wedding dress... she asked what I was planning to do when it was MY turn : ) I didn''t really know, so I was starting to think about it...

buying foundation beforehand and trying it to check about rubbing off is very prudent!

allright, will keep thinking about this for the next 1 3/4 years! Overplanning and overthinking things already!

Aussie

I never tried any of these but here is a few that came up on google. Camouflage makeup Here is one from The Knot Here is another I have heard of Dermablend. You can find that here Here is another Yahoo shopping has a ton here

Sorry to overload you. Like I said I have never tried these products so I would just do your research. When is your wedding?

Fair enough. I thought about makeup for about 30 secs but realized I would be upset if it got on my dress and it seemed easier just to wear my hair 1/2 down. I am sure it was seen (when my hair moved) but at least it was semi-hidden. Let me know if any of these products work. I may need it in the future. You have plenty of time to test them out for me

hah, we''re posting at the same time...

Thanks for all the links!

We''re thinking June 2008 -- plenty of time.

I guess part of me wonders about the whole foundation thing in general -- I don''t wear any makeup so all these things are SO foreign! Makes me feel silly! So here''s to learning about new things and finally acting like a girl!

I don''t wear foundation either so I totally understand. It might not be so bad. Some of those sites had before and after photos and the results look amazing!

Aussie, I have a tattoo on my right shoulder and my intent was to cover it up for my wedding day (of course I never ended up using the product), but its a brand by the name of Dermablend. You can google it and I believe it can even be ordered through QVC.com. It is supposed to cover up any noticeable scars, etc, and it is very thick, like stage cover up.

I never used the make up because my veil covered it up anyways.... but its an option for ya!

This is actually a bit of an issue for me as well...I have 3 tats right now, one on my inner ankle (not really worried abourt that one), one on my lower back, and one on the inside of my wrist. I actually have started getting the one on my wrist removed (long story, basically the tat artist did a bad job and I decided to trust him on bigger, which is my fault, when I should have just waited and slept on it) but I''m not pos. that it will be off by the wedding...mine is a year from November, although I''ve had 3 sessions so far and it''s starting to fade but very very slowly.

I guess my answer is that if it''s still there for the wedding, I''m just going to leave it, I''m not ashamed to show it and although I''m less than thrilled with it, it''s not embarassing or anything, but I''d prefer it be off. I actually will replace it with something smaller and better thought out once it''s gone, I''m just not comfortable with the size of it.

If it were on my back though, a place where makeup may work better since the wrist brushes everything, I may consider making it up. If you''re more concerned about photos, you can have the photog. photoshop out the tat''s also.

That''s one of the links I included and the brand that I have heard of before. I wonder if they can send you a sample.

I remember you talking about that (a snowflake right)? What about a wide bracelet to cover it up?

One of my friends has two tattoos and she hates them so when she got married she wanted to cover them up. Her FI practically begged her to, he hated them more than she did. We used Dermablend on her and it worked great for photos but in person you could still faintly see the outlines. It was also a really hot day, so it did sort of rub off a bit when her husband put his arm around her and put his hand directly on the tweety bird on her upper arm. If he hadn''t done that, it probably would have been ok.

We used the thick heavy foundation and then a setting powder. It took me about half an hour per tattoo to cover them, and they were a few inches each.

One of my bridesmaids has a Peter Rabbit on her upper back, on a shoulder, so her hair wouldn''t cover it, and she feels it would be inappropriate to show it considering the formality and location of my wedding, so we''re looking for a dress with a high back or a jacket for her. She''s sensitive about it. It doesn''t bother me, but I also don''t want her to hear people whispering as she walks down the aisle.

Well, i''m not ashamed of mine - I love them and wouldn''t want them removed -- the more i think about this, the more I think I should just wear them with pride and keep it simple... that would be the most "me!" okenty of time to think it over though..

thanks for all the suggestions!

Yeah that''s a good idea, tacori, I forgot about that...I may do like a three string pearl bracelet or something, I could make it from Swarvoski (or however it''s spelled) pearls, or one of FI''s cousins makes jewelery...that would prob be a good option...even a 2 layer one just to distract from it...it''s just an outline so I dont think too much needs to be done...hopefully I can find a wide bracelet that goes with my dress..

Yeah for me it''s not so much shame as it''s not goign to go with my dress...haha I am a stickler for having a "look" going on and I never care about it but with the dress I''m thinking ehhhh...it''s like wearing the wrong bracelet in my case haha

Sweetpea -- wasn''t implying you should be ashamed of your piece : ) I was more trying to differentiate my situation from that of the girl Sumbride mentioned with the Tweetie Bird she and her fiance hated.

I like the idea of hte double or triple strand pearl bracelet! Could be very pretty!

Aussie

I had the same feeling. I didn''t think it would look good with my whole "get up". lol

But in the end, I really didn''t have time to practice covering it up and I just figured you woudn''t be able to see it anyways. I also left my veil on throughout the reception too - not to cover up the tattoo, but I just wanted to and it wasn''t a problem.

My photographer said she could crop it out if it did show in photos.

OMG I totally didnt get that from you, I know you weren''t-- I was just saying in my case that''s prob what I''ll end up doing! Luckily my FI doenst like tat''s but he doesnt mind mine so it''s cool.

Hello gals!

I too have a small tat on my inside right ankle. Don''t plan to do anything about that as it will be outta sight.

But, just wanted to chime in and say that Dermablend works like a charm! One of my attendants has a ying/yang on her right shoulder, and she REALLY wants to cover it up for my wedding (i''m OK with it showing, but she wants it gone). Anyway, we gave it a trial run and it works great.

Another option was to have my makeup artist cover it up with her airbrush foundation. She mentioned that it can be done, but you still see it faintly.

GOOD LUCK!

I have a one on my upper left arm and one on my back, between my shoulders. They are clearly visible with my dress and I have no intention of covering them. My mother is royally upset about that. He words were "... how trampy and tacky it will look for me to have tattoos showing in my wedding album..."

Once again, I told her- I have them, you don''t. It''s our wedding. I like my ink and we plan on getting a Trinity knot together.

I have been thinking about this and I am not totally sure.

On the one hand, I feel like I am not ashamed of it and it is part of my body. My parents both know about it and like it. I think it would maybe work with a mermaid-style dress I like.

On the other, it will be a Jewish wedding and NONE of FI''s family (the Jewish half) know I have it. My grandparents don''t know either.

FI suggested if I plan to show it I should find some way to gently let people know before the big moment. I have NO idea how to do that "Hey, soon to be family, I have a huge tattoo in black and red down my spine, how ya doin?" Some of these people I''ve only met once for heaven''s sake.

I posted above that this could be found at qvc.com, but sorry, it really is on hsn.com. They have a trial kit that you can test out. I bought this and it comes with three different shades, you can blend.

Here is the direct link - they also have other products as well. http://www.hsn.com/cnt/search/searchresults/default.aspx?Ntt=dermablend&N=0&Ntk=Std&st=1&criteria=boolean&days=&minprice=&maxprice=&o=esearch

Here is the "Try me" kit. It is $17.50 and comes with the lotion and the setting powder.

There are reviews posted at the bottom of this link as well. Some liked and disliked, to each his own - but I think its a great product depending on if you apply it the right way. I also use it for covering dark circles - its amazing.

I''m almost certain that my gal went to their counter at Macy''s

I used dermablend for an ice show once -- it covered well, but it did rub off a bit. I think the key might be to re-apply the powder that comes with it, especially if you are going to be hot or in a humid place.

I have an armband (one of 5 tats) and for the last formal thing I did, I glued fingernail rhinestones randomly on it and it looked great. Maybe too much for some, but I didn''t want to cover up -- my tats are all very important to me (haha maybe with the exception of that band!)
