Oh, RainbowTrout.... I hope you don''t cover yours! For one, it takes up almost your whole back and that would be a whole lot of makeup to have on, and it would rub off on people as they hugged you and touched you. and two, yours is a gorgeous art piece, not just a little piece and it could totally integrate with your dress rather than distract from it. As for how to tell people, I don''t much see the need to do that... play it up, don''t apologize for it... maybe some of those conservative relatives will actually think it''s a temporary you had done for the dress?

My friend''s tweety bird did NOT go with her dress!

I used dermablend for an ice show once -- it covered well, but it did rub off a bit. I think the key might be to re-apply the powder that comes with it, especially if you are going to be hot or in a humid place.

I have an armband (one of 5 tats) and for the last formal thing I did, I glued fingernail rhinestones randomly on it and it looked great. Maybe too much for some, but I didn''t want to cover up -- my tats are all very important to me (haha maybe with the exception of that band!)

Jen, that sounds so pretty!

I have a tattoo on the lower left side of my back, so unless I get a pretty revealing dress (which I''m not planning on) no one will see it. I purposely got it in a place that I could hide easily.

My friend has a few tattoos on her back. When she got married last year they were clearly visible. She thought about covering them up for a while, but decided that they''re a meaningful part of her (one is in rememberance of her mother) so she let them show. I''m glad she did because it''s part of who she is. If you''re comfortable with them, screw what everyone else thinks.

When I was a bridesmaid the make-up girl just used concealer and foundation, and kind of sealed it in with hairspray. It worked ok, but I think I''ll look for something a little bit better for my own wedding. It''s on my shoulderblade, so my hair won''t cover it completely. But I plan on trying some of these kits people mentioned.

Everyone who''s trying it, post back and let us all know!! my cat tat doesn''t really match my dress either, hahaha.

I would totally agree if RainbowTrout wasn't having a Jewish wedding. I think I remember seeing a picture of her tattoo (unless I'm confusing her with someone else, which is totally possible!), and it was gorgeous. Tattoos are a total no-no for religious Jews, though, so it's a matter of offending people's religious sensibilities at a religious ceremony, not just older people not getting the whole tattoo thing. You'll have to make your own decisions on that, of course, just wanted to give a little counterpoint.

ETA: I found the pic, and I'm not losing my mind. That's a beautiful design! I wouldn't recommend trying to cover something that large with makeup, though. If it was me I'd look for a dress that would cover it . . . just for the wedding!

He hee, I am one of those "tramp stamp/lower hip" girls who was concerned at the time of the tattoo about her daddy every seeing her "marks" so I didn''t have to worry about it when wedding dress shopping/interview suit shopping, etc., luckily. However, I have quite a few friends who''ve gone "uh-oh, love my ink, but don''t wanna show daddy and grandma!" So we used dermablend which can be found at JCP still, as SDL mentioned. No worries as far as pics, but closeups you may want to tell your photog you need those air-brushed out. Most photogs these days use digital film anyway, and have that ability, so not to worry, IMO. Everything worked out fine for my wedding, including one BM''s wish that her mother would never see her upper arm tat...we used derma on her and had the tat airbrushed-out before her mom noticed.

Sumbride and Christa: Thanks for the compliments! I don''t think makeup would work either...I''d pretty much decided it was fabric or bust.

It depends a lot on the rabbi and how he feels about it I think. If he''s liberal enough to marry myself (non-religious and very much not Jewish) to a Reform/Consevativeish groom in the first place, he might be OK with it.

Ugh, I suppose the rest of his family would find out sometime..I can''t hide it forever, might as well make a big entrance of it.

That''s funny though, people always think it *is* temporary and come up to ask if it is real! Might work.

I would love to see a picture of this tattoo! It sounds gorgeous. Where can I sneak a peek?
