Its not tacky. Originally I wanted a yg wedding set, but when we were out there looking, it was difficult to find anything we both liked. Right after we were engaged, Scott Kay started making his yellow gold line... figures! There are some FAB-U-LOUS yellow sets on PS I would love to have!

I really have no preferance of metal color... All the jewelry given to me by my parents is yellow. Everything DH has given me is white (wg or plat), wedding set included, because thats what he likes. Now, i mix the two and have some combo pieces, like my watch.

Ten years ago, all the electronics you could buy were sleek black - then the trend came where everything went to silver casings - tvs, dvd, cameras...

If all your components were JVC and black and your VCR broke - you'd be hard pressed to find one that wasn't silver.

Then, slowly black starts being the popular look again.

I think the trending is similar to the silver/yellow jewelry look.

Neither are bad - either could look dated depending on its point of reference.

eta - I'm yellow almost exclusively (also auburn hair)

When Carrie obviously didn''t like the yellow gold, Miranda pointed out that she wears yellow gold (and I think was wearing yellow gold at that moment). Carrie said that yeah, she wears YG for fun, but this is her engagement ring. I got the impression that she thinks that YG is okay when you''re just trying to be fun and don''t really mind if you''re being a little tacky, but for serious, every day jewelry, WG or plat is the way to go.

That being said, I generally prefer yellow gold. I also have auburn-ish hair and pretty pale skin with pink undertones, and I just think that it works better with me. My BF prefers yellow gold. His mom''s e-ring and her updates are all YG, and that was his model of what e-rings are like when he was growing up. He just feels like it''s more traditional. Granted, it seems like preferences oscillate.

Out of my five engaged friends at school (and I think all are 22, so they''re not "old"), 2 have white gold settings and 3 have yellow gold. I feel like there''s a pretty even split in the real world, even if PSers tend to get WG or plat.

I was a young child and teenager in the 1950's and 1960's. At that time, and therefore forever after impressed in my mind, the classic look was gold (yellow gold) jewelry. I do not dislike platinum, but when I dress well I usually wear yellow gold jewelry accent pieces.

In addition, I am very fair (and pink-toned and freckled) and yellow gold looks great next to my skin. Silver metal does not add a thing!!!

I wanted everyone to know that yellow gold is frequently discussed in the Jewelry Pieces forum on Pricescope. This is just one of the threads about it. Some of us are mad about yellow gold and following the designers currently using high karat (very pure) gold.

I recently saw this episode in reruns. I remember she said she wore ''ghetto gold'' I guess refering to her big chunky gold pieces but that her engagement ring should be platinum or something like that. I agree with Mara. I think Carrie was more upset that Aiden(and her best friend Miranda) don''t know her well enough to know she likes ''vintage'' things.

Well, Carrie hated the yellow gold pear shaped diamond but Miranda loved it. Remember, Miranda said she was the one who helped Aiden pick it out. Steve later offered the same ring to Miranda. I just bought the whole Sex and the City DVD set and finished watching the last one last night. Love the show.

Just remember that the yellow gold comment came from a character that wore a yellow gold ''Carrie'' necklace around her neck for almost every episode of six seasons.
He he, I think those nametag necklaces are tacky.

Well, let''s face it, Carrie herself is an utterly tacky person, and the one big flaw of that whole series is that such an unattractive and tacky woman seemed to attract a steady stream of prosperous and attractive men. Wouldn''t happen in real life. She was the weak link in that group of friends.

I don''t think YG is tacky at all -- 14k has a less attractive look than 18k, but I prefer YG and think that it compliments most skin tones better than WG or platinum. Also, Mara is right -- lots of people associate YG with 80s jewelry, which is tacky.

I love the contrast of YG and diamonds. Just love YG.
ROTFL!!! Too true! She was like rich white trash...(I am catching up in the middle of the night on TBS)!

OMG, the episode where she went to her friends house(played by Tatum O''Neal) and had to take off her new manolo''s and they got stolen was the worst outfit ever. It was a combo of leggings, bustier, and sundress.

She has worn some pretty funky stuff. The outfit did look soooooooooo much worse with her walking home from the party in keds though.

Ha Ha. Almost as bad as when she got mugged and they stole her shoes. Miranda''s sensible pumps on Carrie was a hoot.

Ha ha I do like Carrie but some of her actions and outfits were a little over the top!

I was sitting by an African American classmate today with a great sense of style, and she was wearing some beautiful gold jewelry, looked like 18 carat if I had to guess. The bright gold looked absolutely stunning against her skin. And I am not even usually a yellow gold fan but I couldn''t take my eyes off her beautiful jewelry. It goes to show that everyone should go with what flatters their skin tone or what they like the best, and forget about what''s "popular."

I''ve seen some gorgeous yg settings. I think wg & plat are experiencing a huge resurgence of popularity, but other than the 80''s cluster rings, I think yg can be gorgeous and make quite the statement.

I love gold bracelets, gold watches, gold necklaces (seen the new 18kt mag ads? ) and I have a two tone watch to pull together some of the very beautiful yg pieces I own. Its warm, its rich and while my e ring is wg & my earrings are wg (which i am allergic to as well, I ahve plastic sheaths on them) I still like yg.
