Good but least expensive .20 DBTY

My mother is going to get my DD a DBTY in the $500 range. I do not mind putting some $ towards it and not opposed to a pre-loved piece. I am wondering if anyone has ideas on specific diamonds that I should look at? I like vendors that have an upgradable policy.

Should I be concerned with clouds, feather or crystals? I was looking at BGD or BN and the diamonds that are in the $400-500.
