During my absence for the past 2-3 weeks, I have been searching high and low for something that feeds my soul - my own grand piano! After a lot of homework and many miles on the road all over SoCal, I finally found my dream piano!!

It is Kawai 6'1 grand piano with the most amazing tone and sound amongst all the ones I have "auditioned" (within my price range that is, if the money is no object my dream piano is a Steinway Model B at "only" $80K). I am so excited to announce that my baby is being delivered tomorrow!!!! I get to have an instrument to make my heart sing for many many years to come!

It is an extremely expensive item to purchase but I am so proud of having done it! If diamonds are food to our eyes then this piano is definitely the food to my soul!

Thanks for listening!

How exciting, post pics when you can!!!

Thanks all for your kind response!
Well, I am a classical musician by training (even though I am doing medical research for a living), so it is no surprising that this piano of my own takes a very special spot in my heart.

I will definitely post pictures soon!

Can you play Liszt''s La Campagnella?

For you, anything! (after many hours of practice...)

For now, how about taking a listen at the talented Yundi Li?

Aw. Darn it! My speakers are not working. I''d like to learn that piece before I die.

LOL DF - at least they were honest!

And zhuzhu, how exciting! My husband plays piano and I know how much he would kill for a grand. That''s awesome. We demand youtube clips of your playing!

zhuzhu,
How many notes can you stretch?

Fabulous! I look forward to seeing pics! DH took piano lessons for 8 years and has a beautiful touch. I''ve been wanting a piano for a while. A baby grand, though. My LR isn''t big enough for a grand!

My hands are on the small side for pianists. I can reach one full octive plus an extra note. I play Mozart, Beethovan and Bach with ease, but for Rachmaninov and Liszt, I need to manipulate finger numberings to make it work fast and strong. It all about making the most of what you got in anything!

Same here. Just 1 more note ...

Zhuzhu: How wonderful that you found the right piano for you, and that you''re able to get it for yourself. I hope it does indeed feed your soul!

How fantastic. pictures please. I always wanted to learn the piano as a child, maybey one day

I played for 7 years when I was little, but have forgotten everything. I never really practiced as much as I should have, it was one of millions activities ''prescribed by parents'' I had to do.... But now I miss it and regret stopping. I remember Bach was my favourite, always so calming. I would really like to re-learn how to play again.

Oh zhuzhu what a wonderful wonderful purchase!!! I am all filled up with warm fuzzy feelings for you, you lucky ducky you!

One day, that'll be me. Pleeeeease God. Oh what I wouldn't give for a grand piano. Actually, just for a real piano again instead of my really old digital

ETA - Harriet, you are one hard task master!!! So I double-checked. Almost an 11th for me. A 10th very easily and soooo close to an 11th it hurts

A 10th is good enough for me. I had a teacher who could do twelfths!
