Got CAD drawings from WF...Need opinions!

Oops looks like that attachment didn't work.

It looks a bit like the basket itself was compressed...did you ask for that? But I don't think there's anything wrong with you sending this picture of the comparison to them and request the stone be set lower as in the precious drawing.

td that difference in height that you are seeing there is going to be dependent on how the setter sets the stone - it's not a difference in the CAD itself. I think when you said "lowered" they thought you meant with girdle on the same plane as the halo, which would necessitate an airline to make the prongs fit.

If you look closely you see a couple of things:
1. The halo height is not exactly aligned in the pictures - the Oct model is ever so slightly higher, and this is important because we're talking tenths of a mm at *most* IRL so we really are talking about exactly that sort of minute difference
2. In the Sept CAD the centerstone is set lower into the prongs, and the table is aligned with the top of the prongs, whereas IRL the prongs will wrap around the girdle rather than stick up vertically

Tell them that you want the stone to be set as low into the halo as possible and let them worry about the 0.05 vs 0.07mm height variance, they've done this thousands of times before and they'll know how to get the "look" you want with those guidelines ::) Honestly, I promise you wouldn't even notice that difference IRL anyway, when it's all sparkly diamond and shiny metal!

I think the new CAD looks really good - I like the compressed basket that leaves enough height for a flush wedding band.

Yes I asked them to compress the basket so as to fit the flush fit band. I didn't want them to simply raise everything up and make it too tall, so I asked the to compress the basket.

Wait, why are there now diamonds on the bridge of the shank, under the head? Did you ask them to add that? It wasn't on the CAD from September, that's why I ask.

I think that's the wedding bands diamonds flush with the e-ring.

Very pretty! Love the setting!

Ah, that makes sense, thanks.

Charmedone is correct. That is because in that CAD drawing they also showed it with the wedding band. Thanks for the feedback everyone! I wrote a note to WF asking that they do whatever they can to ensure that the diamond stays as low as possible without having to modify the prongs. They have also assured me that with all the sparkle from the diamonds and platinum, a lot of this won't be noticeable IRL. Just want to make sure I'm crossing my T's and dotting my I's after dropping this kind of cash!

Ok everyone. I'm very excited! I got the final CADs today and I finally approved them!!!!! I asked to have the diamond lowered as much as they could in CAD and to set it as low as they can when hand setting it. I also asked for the basket to get a little fuller. I can't say enough about how patient the folks at WF were with me. I was very, very picky and probably noticing most things 99% of people would. Many, many things I haven't even mentioned on here. I had about 8+ go backs and they were patient with me the whole time. I am an automobile designer by trade (I draw cars) and I was noticing some things that I am almost too embarrassed to mention on here :wink2: However, I am by no means a pro when it comes to designing rings and I THANK YOU ALL for your very candid and valuable insight.

Here are the CADs. Hope you all like them. Thanks again for your help! I will be sure to update everyone with the final photos.

Why thank you very much!! They said about 2 weeks before its complete. Looking very much forward to it. Now comes the task of deciding how and where to propose!

I could do the whole Christmas thing, or I could wait for our trip to Cabo in March. Decisions, decisions....

So after a long gestation process, I got the photos of the finished ring today! I am VERY happy with the finished product :) Wanted to share the finished product with everyone since everyone has been so helpful with all their insight and helped me to get to where I am today! Please let me know your thoughts! I hope you enjoy! I am kind of hoping I can ask for two more pics so I can maybe see the basket. More so for my folder I am creating for the development process of the ring.

Now I just need to figure out a way to propose!!! The winter weather is hurting a lot of my plans, and I am afraid she would see it coming if I did it on a warm weather trip we are planning soon.

Thanks again everyone!!!

P.S. Which is the best place to give feedback on how wonderful EVERYONE at WF has been through this process? I understand show me the bling is a good place? Any other sections or websites to leave feedback?

Wow! Really pretty!

Hello all!!!

Just wanted to pass along the fantastic news to you. My fiancee and I are engaged!

All she ever wanted was to be surprised, and boy was she ever. Usually this time of year we take a warm weather trip, but this year we passed on it, and we were talking about how we regretted not doing one after all.

I got her boss and one of her co-workers involved and through lots of work we had her convinced that she was going to be going with her co-worker on a work trip to Miami for a conference. Her boss was rewarding them with some flyer miles he had that were going to "expire" and he wanted to send the two of them. Her co-worker had to take an earlier flight but would meet my fiancee at The W Hotel on the beach where they were to be staying for 5 days.

Of course in reality I had paid for her flight as well as renting the room at The W. Her co-worker was keeping me up to date on her progress, etc. and I was feeding her info to pass along as to how to get to the hotel, etc which she passed along to my fiancee to make it all the more believable. This way I also new what time she would be arriving down to the minute :)

When she opened the door to the hotel, she expected to see her co-worker but rather she saw me dressed up with rose petals and candles on the floor, and a bottle of champagne and strawberries on the bed. She absolutely freaked out and couldn't believe her eyes! I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She said YES :)

Since I knew when she was on her way up (the front desk called me) I was able to record the hole thing so we have that memory.

I can't even begin to tell you how thrilled she is with the ring!!!!! She couldn't take her eyes off of it all weekend. She said she couldn't have picked a better ring, and was searching for different lights to see how much it sparkled. When we went thru some tunnels while driving around the thing was just dancing with light. Incredible.... She told me today that every girl in the office was in awe of the diamond, and two of them actually cried.

I attached a few hand shots. As you already know, pictures don't begin to do your diamonds justice!

Thank you so much to EVERYONE who had input on this design. I couldn't be happier!!!!! I am truly blessed to have found this site. I will continue to be a member of this site and I have told many of my friends to start here with their research as it has been absolutely priceless to me.

And THANK YOU too Sheerah, Bryan, Vera, the design team, and everyone at WHITEFLASH for an amazing experience!
