Yesterday my fiance and I visited one of the listed vendors from this site in our area, and we bought my diamond. Here are the specs:

Round Brilliant
1.21 carat
Depth 61%
Table 56%
Girdle, thin, faceted
Culet None
Polish Excellent
Symmetry Excellent

Clarity Grade VS2
Color Grade G
Fourescence None

It will be set in a solitaire, platinum antique-style setting with engraving to match the band. Because FI has a larger diamond that we are setting as well in a similar style, we want the engraving to match so that it doessn''t look like I have to completely differently styled rings.

I will post pics when I get it in my hot hands :).

Oh can you give us the rest of the specs, crown and pavillion?
Who did the grading report?
When will it be set?
What is this other diamond you mentioned...any specs there?
Pictures???? Please!

Are you getting 2 engagement rings????? Lucky girl!!!! Or is your FI having a wedding band made with the other diamond? EIther way how cool! Can''t wait to see the pictures!

The grading report is GIA. I don''t have the crown or pavilion angle specs, but I do have the measurements:

6.87 - 6.94 x 4.21mm

The setting will be done in two weeks, but my fiance wants to propose and officially present them shortly thereafter. I will post pics :).

As for the other diamond aka "The Big Mother," well, it is a 4 carat VVS2 (I don''t know the color or the other specs). There is story behind this diamond. My fiance acquired this and another diamond uncut and went to great lengths to have it cut because his diamond cutter friends refused to cut it. Fiance didn''t pay for the diamonds, he acquired them in a business deal. He actually is not a big diamond person. So they had been sitting in a safe uncut until he was dating this woman who would parade him around Tiffany''s and Cartier. She wanted him to buy her a comparable diamond from one of those places, but he knew that he could do better going shopping in his safe. He had the larger diamond cut (after much wrangling from a jeweler and diamond cutter friend), took it to another place to get it set (because they were still mad that he had cut it), and presented it to her. They were engaged for a brief while. But when we started to get more serious, I told him that I would want that ring reset. It is currently in a 4 prong platinum setting (real simple). I want a thin engraved platinum band for it in a 6 prong setting. I really haven''t told too many people about this diamond. I feel like a little girl playing dress up when I wear it in its former setting, which is way too big for me.

So both rings will be ready in a little less than two weeks, but I promise to post pics.

WOW whatta story!!! Can''t wait to see pics.

... pendant ? There is no such thing as a diamond too large for a pendant!

Btw. about the current 1.2 diamond under debate... those extra numbers are supposed to be useful telling if much brighter round diamonds are out there, of this one ranks up with the best anyway, without having to line up a hundred diamonds and compare them (=mission impossible). However, the 'stats' are handy if one doesn't have the diamond at hand. And measurements of diamonds are not 100% precise (like any other measurements

) - more like second best. With the diamond at hand, similar evaluation takes raking it's brightness up on a scale - which some tools are supposed to help with. Most jewelers writing on or talked about on this forum would work this sort of comparison out one way or another (with funny tools calls IdealScope, ASET or... others). Anyway, I have no reason to believe the diamond you picked up would fail such evaluation, and every bit of info on this thread so far sounds very good, IMO.

My 2c.

Congratulations for the new diamond addition!

Valeria and others, thank you for your feedback. I will post pics when I get the rings. I feel good about my decisions so far and comfortable with the jeweler. Since I am 29, and not a rock star or society girl, I think that the 4 ct. stone is a bit over the top. I can see wearing it to the symphony, to a nice dinner, and yes, even in certain professional situations. However, for every day wear, it might be too much, at least for now. I don''t even have to dress up for work every day.
