I just wanted to share what a great experience I had with Prima Gems at Intergems. My child (10 year old son) is very into rocks and has been getting into understanding gem stones. Recently we talked about his birthday stone being garnet but that most people don't know that garnets are not all dark red. I decided to take him to intergem to get him a garnet. He is a bit of hippy boy so he likes to wear pendants on chains (a few at a time). His biggest is a sharks tooth beasel set in silver on a long think silver chain. Anyhow my intent was that he could pick out a stone and find a setting and chain for it. Based on the info I found here I decided to find the prima gems booth to take him to. They were SOOO great with him. I explained what we were doing and why. They helped my son pick which kind of garnet. My son decided he liked the orange Spessartite. And narrowed it to a trillion shape. I had wanted to keep the project reasonable if case he misplaced it. So they pulled out a parcel of smaller ones. Then they had my son pick out 5 or so that he liked. But they also added the ones that were likely a higher quality. They showed him the ideal saturated stones from the parcel. Then they had him loupe about three. So he could pick the best one (they helped) to make sure my son wasn't missing anything. They were great with him. Explaining everything but in a way that wasn't talking down to him. They even put all the info about the stone on the receipt including what mine it was from.

While I was there I got a pair of Tanzanite 5 mm that I will make into studs for my IDJ jackets I got for my ruby studs.

After we left prima gems my son picked a setting and chain at a booth. They set it while we waited. And we walked back over to show the prima guys since they wanted to see the end result. The color is great on the piece. And the whole process was super fun for my kido. I know not all boys would wear a pendant but for my little hippy child this fits him perfectly and he had a ton of fun.

For me I can always tell people's character for how they treat a child so prima gems will get a lot of my business.

What a fabulous story! A recommendation indeed. You & Primagems might have started him on an interest in stones, too, who knows? The spess looks great. How about pics of your tanzanite pair?

That is a fantastic story, Ruby!!! How exciting for your son to really learn from the experts - and what a wonderful investment in client relations for Prima gems! Yah on both counts :appl:

Your son has pretty cool tastes in jewellry - I love trillions and that spess looks "too cool for school" on him - rock it, little buddy!

Awwwww, I am SQUEALING over this story! So cute! I have a 2 year old son, and I don't know if he'll be into stones when he gets older or not, but if he were, I'd like to think I'd be a good enough Mom to support him in his interest like you did. And who cares about gender stereotypes and such? I love cooking and I'm presently making my son a DIY play kitchen out of an old TV cabinet because he likes to play pretend when I'm cooking. (Besides, I hope my son does grow up loving to cook - his future partners would be thankful, too, I'm sure!)

As for Prima, I have to say, I just had a wonderful experience purchasing from them too! Remotely via email/USPS, though, not at Intergem. I am hoping to go to Intergem in Chicago this December and I truly hope to go meet the Prima folks in person and play with all their lovely stones. I had such a good experience with Jaimeen (was he there - did you meet him?) and have nothing but great things to say for the company as well as the GORGEOUS stones I bought (5 mm tsavorites for earrings).

Knowing that they treated your son so well and so seriously just makes me want to do more business with them!

Awesome experience and he's on the way to learning more about coloured gemstones too. :cheeky: Very nice simple setting for the stone (suitable for his age and activity level) and actually, the spessartite is quite nice looking too.

Sounds like you guys had a great time and I like the garnet he chose. I keep hearing nice things about Prima Gems. :)

LOVE this story!

Thanks everyone. It is so nice when you find a way to bring kids into something they like. My son loves his pendant and the stone is full of brilliance. And prima went truely above and beyond in working with us. I will post some pictures of the taz 5 mm when I get a chance.
