As I mentioned in another thread, I am visiting my parents in NC and have been playing with their new digital camera...so much fun

Attached is a pic of my great-grandmother's engagement ring circa 1920. It was given to me by my mother in March after my grandmother passed away. I love it so much, and think of her everytime I look at it. I believe it is a .30ct OEC with 10 smaller pave set diamonds.

I wanted to share it with you guys. Maybe one day I will be able to put MY engagement ring on here

But, this ring will always be my right hand ring

Here's another couple of pics, they don't do the ring justice...

That's beautiful! And HOW special!!! Fantastic. And hey- looks like you have nice small fingers, huh? (jealous).... I always find that a lot of old rings are so tiny...guess people are a lot bigger these days

I can barely get antique rings on my pinky!

Boy! Your ring looks so sparkly and white in the pics! What a nice heirloom to have for a right hand ring. It's very pretty!

i knew everyone here would appreciate it. i forgot to add, it was appraised as an F (but don't forget, it's set so i'm not sure if it isn't a little lower) and also an SI1, only because the culet is chipped.

and MMM, we had to have a small diamond replaced and also the band fixed because it was broken in half (worn down), so we had it sized to a 5 for me.

it is a very special piece and i look forward to passing it on one day.

Oh my goodness, that is a very special ring! Thank you for letting us see it. Just extraordinary! And it's in such good condition, too. Your great grandmother must have taken very good care of it.

Lovely workmanship w/ a special sentiment!

thanks glitterata and F&I

my grandma would wear it everyday too! like i said, the worst thing wrong with it was that the band was broken in half and a diamond missing. we took it to the local jeweler and he fixed it and cleaned it up nicely. the detailed work is what gets me, makes it look so different, i can't believe none of that part wasn't damaged or bent out of shape. i think my great-grandma and grandma would be pleased to see it all spiffed up

Think how up-to-the-minute that ring was in 1920. Was your great grandma a modern young woman? Was your great grandfather a fashionable young man?

hmmm glitterata, good question. i will have to ask my mom when she wakes up tomorrow. but i would say a modern young woman, i don't know anything about my great-grandfather, except that he had great taste
