I grew mine out! I''m so proud of myself. I had always had long hair though until I cut it WAAAAAY short last march. I don''t have any advice other than stay away from hair salons.. for trims and stuff I only let myself go to supercuts or something because I know I won''t trust them to do anything besides trim my hair. And usually they won''t try to talk to you into anything there either.. I actually just went there before our engagement pics and she actually TRIMMED my hair.. usually they always cut off way too much..
Lemme see if I can find a before and after
hmm. I''ll have to attach a before... but here is our engagement picture. That was Labor Day, so it may even be a bit longer now..

i actually had a hairdresser undermine my goal of growing my hair back out! i''d go in for a trim and she''d layer it. when confronted, she said she didn''t think i''d like my hair all one length! not her choice!!! she''s gone and i love my hair one length.

if you have layers, its not easy but enough of us have done it and its worth it. at some point, you have to quit layering if you really want really long hair. get it down to beneath your chin or to your shoulders and just bite the bullet: say no to layering. have the bottom trimmed only and let the rest catch up. and it will do so fairly quickly.

also, long hair care is different: hair should be cut dry, not wet. most hairdressers are NOT experienced long hair professionals. get to know as much about long hair as you do about diamonds.

also, i found trimming once every 3-4 months until you get the layers gone and then once every 6 months until it got really long worked. getting bangs and layers gone are a must and there is no easy way to do it...actually, its easier while the hair is shorter so that when you start growing for length, you''ve really done all the hard work and can just enjoy the total even grow out.

i''m to the point now i''m just going to let it go and see how long it gets.....i

My hair''s pretty thick and a bit coarse though...so cutting it to all one length when it''s short, or letting the back grow to meet the front then blunt wont work for me b/c it''ll stick out. The hairdresser spends more time thinning my hair than styling (which hurts btw b/c she shears it out using one side of the scissors), and the most annoying part to me is behind my ears where my hair gets bulky...

I''ll give it a go for a few months, I love my hair short but i''m bored and would like to actually feel like i have hair...plus I''ve prob got about 2 years, maybe 3 before getting married, and I''d like to have some hair for that...

also, note:: if you have long hair DO NOT allow your hair person to highlight it using the stupid cap!! one did that once "b/c he didn''t do foil" yeh- my hair was soooooooo knoted! it took so long to comb out and it hurt like

, and they had to end up cutting it a few inches shorter than i wanted to because of the stupid cap. maybe it was just my hair, but the cap doesn''t work for me!

I always have layers and have never had a problem growing them out. Stylists can cut long layers or short layers. You know what I tell hair dressers in a joking but still serious way to keep them from cutting too much? "I just want you to know if you take off too much hair I will cry which will probably cause a scene." From that point on they won''t do anything other than what you asked them to do and you can be sure you get what you want.
