:(

I got that gem trader email yesterday.... the pink spinel trillion had me instantly in love. I really shouldn't be buying it but I was head over heels... I emailed him I think 6 minutes after the email went out.

Well of course I was too late.... I'm devastated (as much as one could be with a gemstone)

I fell so in love. I don't know if I'm looking for another one to replace it or just to vent to some lovely ladies and gentlemen that would understand. But oh, shoot, I wanted that  I'm sure some lucky PSer has gotten it.

Aww, it's so pretty! I can see why you'd be disappointed. :(

Not that it's Brad's fault or anything but I always roll my eyes when I get a "New Items" email from TGT. Nine times out of ten even if I check within minutes, every single thing I want is on reserve. I'm not quick enough!

Right! I checked my email it was literally 6 mintes after the email came to me that I emailed him back..... :blackeye: never fast enough.

It's like that with Gene's stones. I swear I've added them to my cart 15 seconds after I get the email and it's still gone.

Aw, Niel, I'm with you! Last month I was actually on Brad's site when the new stones switched on. In one minute, I went through them & emailed him about one -- dang it, gone already!

How do you hunters click so fast????? :knockout:

Yes, definitely Gene and ACG too. Gem stalkers I tell ya!

I kid. I do envy so many of the people who snapped up the pretties I was eyeing. Maybe some impulse purchases will end up in Preloved :naughty:

that is a pretty spinel.

What a beautiful pink spinel. I can see why you wanted it so badly.

Lovely spinel that is also well priced. How about emailing Brad to see if he has any other similar spinel? He often has a few unlisted stones in inventory. I've only been lucky enough to snap up TGT's drop stones twice and I tell you it's pure luck! Never ever had a chance with Gene or Barry's drops. Ever!

Couple thoughts from someone with no background:

It could be your email. The amount of time an email takes to get from one box to another varies depending on the sender and reciever email provider, internet conditions etc. So even though you are emailing 6 minutes after you get it, that could be 2 hrs after he sent it, or even 5 minutes after someone else got it. Just food for thought.

Is there a pattern to the drops? Could just stalk the site on the day of the drop to get what you want.

Well I emailed him about any more but I don't have my hopes too high.

Thanks BP but I think its more the system he uses for these drops is not very consistent.

I have a guess here, gem cutters may just list everything they cut, including pre-ordered stones, this is why they went to reserve immediately. With no option to buy it now, how would you know if you were the first in line for the stone or not?

I suppose I should come clean and just say that I was stalking his drop all morning/afternoon since I didn't have to work until late that evening. I emailed him as soon as I saw the drop happen, and I just plain lucked out. 99 times out of 100, I'm too late...I was just very fortunate this go around. If y'all want, I will post some real life pictures when I get it in the mail. The only reason I posted this was I don't want people to suspect that there is a nefarious intent on Brad's part (he is always such a pleasure to work with), there are just a lot of interested parties, and every now and then somebody is fortunate enough to win the gemstone lottery...so to speak! I wonder who got that beautiful Rhodochrosite...that is a stunner!

His inventory is amazing. I like how clear the rhodochrosite seems. Pictures please!

I can never capture fluorescence well, but here is my best try...

Here it is with 2 other Mahenges (a big thank you to NKOTB and Mara). It is really hard to capture the accurate color of all 3 in the same photo.

Last pictures (sorry, figured better to post too many than too few), I was thinking about combining it with another blue(ish) stone when I set it. So I put it with a lazulite and an apatite, I just wish the lazulite would show up better in the pictures. It's a real beautiful true blue!

Gorgeous spinel and you can never post enough pictures of it. The faceting makes it so sparkly too. You are indeed very lucky to snag it.

Gah that pic with the fluor is killing me.... too spectacular.

Beautiful color!

Your new spinel is STUNNING. It's so glowy and vibrant! Congrats on being so quick to the draw. :appl:
